First ever Topsy Turvy/Mad Hatter as well as first time using fondant to cover. First bows, roses, balls. Not too bad, but I need loads more practise. Cakes were passionfruit and pineapple butter cake. Very moist and yummy

My first real experiment with fondant. The hat and base are iced in buttercream. All the accents are in fondant. Used the pearl dust (also for the first time) on the flowers and purple fondant. Really had fun with this one!

My take on a lindy smith design for a customers 40th birthday, all choc mud cake covered in fondant with fondant/gumpaste accents. to make the 40 topper i used some numbers i found on the net, printed them out and used these as a template to cut the numbers out of gumpaste.. there is also a matching cupcake display for the ladies daughter who is turning 6. i should have that one done by tomorrow. thanks for looking.........

The tiers are meant to symbolize various characters within Alice in Wonderland. This was our first attempt at using fondant, and it was a lot of fun!!

I'm so happy it snowed last night for this couple! They came up to Toronto from California for their wedding and asked for a wintery-themed Mad Hatter cake using their sage green/grey wedding colours. The toppers are groom cookies that I made in their likenesses with their wedding attire. Had fun with them, but we did all the arrangements by email and I'm so sad I didn't get a chance to meet them in person!

i made this for my daughter's 2nd birthday. i had never made a topsy-turvy cake, or a tiered cake before. i had only made sheet cakes. i also made all the "bugs" out of gum paste. i must have been crazy to try this, but i pulled it off and everyone loved it.

I usually do my whimsical cakes in fondant, but just started doing them in buttercream and really love it. This is a buttercream cake with some fondant designs. The wires are gumpaste

My first topsy-turvy cake for my little sister's surprise 40th birthday party. Each tier contained numerous flavors of cake - buttercream icing. Gumpaste accents. I learned a lot with this cake and it took me forever - but it was worth every minute!

Well, this is my first attempt at a topsy turvy cake. A word of advice make sure to put a dowel through the whole thing cause I didn't and well it fell in the car and luckily I was able to save it but with some broken pieces including my 5 hour gumpaste Hannah on top :( oh well a learning experience for sure, thanks for looking and and reading my sob story but only we can understand the a hours spent working on some of these cakes.

my first one!!!!!!!!! I was pretty happy with how it turned out. The colors/design came from the customer.. she brought me a picture from an online cake company and asked for this design so that was not my doing :) but I love the cake nonetheless! Top tier is yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling and bottom tier is yellow cake with raspberry filling; iced in buttercream with fondant accents

(I think I went a little overboard on the wire decorations, whoops! LOL)
This cake design copied her invitations for the Bat Mitzvah.
Buttercream-iced cakes with fondant details & gumpaste/wire decorations and banner. I hand-cut the "E" topper (made two, they were so fragile I was scared I was going to break one!)

My first topsy turvey cake! This was made for a mad hatter themed wedding. The cake is for the Bride and Groom. I thought I could make it with regular soft cake. BOY WAS I WRONG! I had to re-do it with an almond cake recipe. All in all, it turned out well. It is difficult to see in the photo, but the entire cake is covered in gold shimmer dust. A very nice effect!

Iced w/ bc, black and white fondant accents, silver dragees on top and bottom tiers. I have the coordinating groom's cake posted in my pictures if you want to see it. I strongly recommend doing a trial run on styrofoam before placing the monograms on a slanted cake top!!

This cake is just like the other TWO of these that I've made except it was half the size, and they didn't want black roses, so I swapped them out for white ones. Thanks for looking!

6" and 10" rounds stacked with fondant and gumpaste accents. When I delivered this the top cake was falling off...I was horrified!! Hopefully the "fix" was decent enough. this photo is an after pic.

Baby shower cake. Color scheme/theme based on invitation design. I used the tutorial on this site, thanks! Red velvet cake, buttercream, MMF, hand painted spots, MMF bear and blocks (used some tylose in the blocks). Could be better, but not bad for my first "mad hatter" cake... Thanks for looking!

This was done for a Red Hat Society's 10th Anniversary. Local ladies chose the design and I did some research online here at CC for red hat cakes. The hat was hand drawn and pin pricked onto the sheet cake.... BC icing.. I modeled this after VARNEYK's cake... minus the flowers. Thanks for the inspiration.

I've seen a few cakes with zebra stripes & so I thought I would give it a try. I made this cake for my friends 26th birthday over the weekend. Not only does she love the mad hatter style cakes, but she is a huge 80's fan. I thought by adding the zebra stripes with her two fave colors (bright green & pink) it gave it the perfect 80's look. She loved it! :)
