I did this at a cake course, it is a very hard cake to get your head around, angles are really important, thought it turned out OK though. Wont be trying to sell too many of these...LOL

3 layer 9 inch & 3 layer 6 inch Tirimasu and chocolate covered in fondant. I liked the look of this cake because it looked like the top layer was sliding off the bottom.

My daughters 19th birthday cake. She didn't know what she wanted. She just said "surprise me". I've always wanted to do a Topsy Turvy cake and had been a little scared so I told myself to go for it (~after finding a fantastic how-to article on this site~). Who better than to practice on than my kid! She doesn't like fondant so it was done in all buttercream. Did I mention she finally decided the night before her birthday dinner she wanted a cake?? Baked, cooled, carved and decorated in 6 hours.....Whew!!!

This was for a Mad Hatter Tea Party themed baby shower. The mother-to-be was having a boy, so the stencil on the tablecloth was done with blue food coloring. The teapot was made out of rice krispie treats and then covered with fondant and hand painted. The pocket watch and hat were both made out of fondant as well.

This cake was created for an "Alice in Wonderland" themed sweet sixteen. The birthday girl's name is Aline - so the event became ""Aline in Wonderland". The teapot was created with cereal treats covered in fondant. The bottom tier cake was chocolate filled with fresh fruit and whipped cream. The middle (hat) layer was sponge cake with chocolate ganache. The cake was covered in fondant. The clock, bunny ears, playing card references, signs, tea cup, drink me bottle and other details were created with gum paste. The bottom on the cake was covered with green sugar crystals and topped with sugar cookes with "Eat me" written on them.

Topsy Turvy cake made for my niece's 3rd birthday. Not only is this only the second cake I've ever made, it's my first Topsy Turvy. I was pretty proud of how it came out when I first assembled it at my shop, but the mistakes I made became quite obvious once I tried to transport it home. When I carved out the space for the next tier to sit on the bottom, I didn't get it perfectly level and I didn't have a "lip" all the way around so it slid as I drove home (even with a central dowel going through the whole cake). This cake was made with the understanding that it was practice and for learning experience...boy did I ever learn a thing or two! For next time: I will make sure everything is level before assembling and I will not do those little "balls" around the base again (tedious and they fell all over the place). The ribbon roses, however, I am totally in love with. Oh, and I won't premake decorations to place on the cake again - hardened flowers/decor doesn't like to stick on the cake.
