I started calling this cake "Wilma Flinstone Meets the Cheetah Girls". My SIL found a picture of a cake very similair to this a few years ago and has been asking me to make it ever since. She had just printed the picture from a website so I'm not sure who to give credit to for the original idea, but if you know who did it, let me know! It is such a fun cake and my first whimsical so I learned a lot from it. Buttercream with fondant accents.

6" and 8" rounds iced in buttercream with fondant accents, gumpaste plaques, and white choc. clay roses. The lady who the cake was for was retiring after 37 yrs. of making lightbulbs for GE...if you're wondering why the lightbulb is there lol. It was also a combined Retirement/Mother's Day gift!

You'll have to excuse the quality of this photo.....I forgot to bring my camera, so I just got this pic from the photog and can't get my scanner going, so I had to take a picture of a picture lol. 6",9", and 12" cakes iced in buttercream with fondant accents and silk flowers. This was a fun bride to work with, there were also five side cakes with black gumpaste bows, but I haven't been able to get any photos of those yet....just happy I got at least ONE of this cake.

This was such a fun cake to do! The bride wanted something pretty yet playfull. It was made up a bunch of different flavors and one fake tier. (can you guess which one is the fake one?) I did the pink by first rolling out the fondant, brushing it with the petal dust, then cutting out the triangles.

This is the first Topsy Turvy cake I have ever done. Thanks to all who answered my questions and thank you especially to JKalman for detailed instruction! It is iced all in BC with MMF circles, dots, and balls. This was for my oldest son's 5th grade graduation from his Catholic Grad School- edible photo of the class on the middle tier.

My first one of these, made for someone who is driving it home themselves...3 hours away! omg! All fondant, 4, 6, and 8" cakes. I used the tutorial on here that helped a lot, and I had some mishaps with stacking, but you can't really tell... had fun doing it though--hope it survives the trip! Vanilla caramel cake, chocolate with PB filling, and white cake with raspberry. Design is from a picture they emailed me.

My very first ever madhatter!!! Had been dying to try one and had been trying to talk people into it for ages and then finally!
2 tier madhatter (top tier two stacked cakes) inspired by a brilliant decorator I saw somewhere and wanted to recreate it with a little bit of a difference

Yellow cake with raspberry filling, iced in bc with chocolate clay decos and fondant flowers. This was attempt #3. Attempt #1, the cake board collapsed when I tried to put the center dowel in. #2 - the top two tiers fell over at 11:30pm. #3 was re-baked and crumb coated by 2:30 am... got up at 6:30 to finish it. First two attempts were "genuine" mad hatter style with the bottom layer being smaller than the top. Went this route with slanted styrofoam bases ...and thankfully the bride didn't care! :)

This was for a birthday and was quite unsure of the colour selection but really happy with the outcome I named it the citrus because it reminds me of lemon lime and orange!

Inspired by EmmasCakes, my friend asked for a topsy-turvy and left the rest up to me, with minor requests. I've always wanted to do the tall pearl cake by Emma, so I used the opportunity to make this modified version in gold luster dust (I mixed super-gold with old-gold). I painted it on, but now I am definitely in the market for an airbrush!

This cake was made for my cousin...topsy turvy 4" 6" 8" with tapered tiers (3 layers each). Fondant covered with fondant accents and fondant balls on silver wire out the top. Words on middle tier say Inspire Dream Believe. BIG thanks to those who gave advice on the design and especially to jkalman for her awesome directions on doing this style of cake. Mine didn't turn out as beautiful as hers but it would have been a wreck without her guidance!

This was for a golf tournament with a mardi gras theme and it was also my very first whimsical cake. I was supper nervous it was going to fall over even though I knew it wouldn't. Crazy mind tricks these cake play. I had made some masks out of gumpaste, but then I decided that the cake just didn't need them, so I just laid them around the base of the cake. Don't you hate when you make stuff that takes forever and then in the end you don't even need it. The cake is fondant with gumpaste accents.

8", 10", 12" and 14" different chocalate cakes. Covered in fondant, used daisey cutters for flower pattern to resemble the invitations. Paisley patter on slanted stripes of fondant, piped royal icing accents and hand painted with pearl dust diluted in clear vodka. A real big challange but really enjoyed the final product. Everyone was in awe including the bride, so mission accomplished!!!!

This was a cake I made recently for a friend of mine. Her sister was getting married and she was throwing an Alice In Wonderland themed bridal shower. She requested a Mad Hatter type cake and said the bride's favorite color was blue. she said those words we all LOVE to hear "do whatever you think fits". This is the results!

10" 6" rounds im banana and hazelnut mud covered in fondant with fomdant decoration, was a pain to ,ake as ot had to be kept in two seperate tiers as the MOG is taking it on a plane to the wedding and i needed to figure a way to fully decorate it as two seperate cakes and be able to be set up by a non cake person, so ended up stickin the top tier to a card 1" bigger than the cake and then attaching the decorations to that. this pic was taken with the top just sitting on the bottom.

Made this today. I have seen some wonderful pictures on here and wanted to have a go myself. Millions of imperfections but I'm happy with it considering I have never done one before. Didn't have any design in mind before doing it and just went with it. Top is 3inch butterscotch and toffee buttercream filling and chocolate and chocolate buttercream 3 in 7 and 8 inch cakes. bottom 8 and 9 inch vanilla madeira jam and buttercream. Absolutely covered in lustre dust but cant really tell from photo TFL Han

Two layer topsy-turvy cake for a friend's wedding. Bottom layer is 10 in round on top of 9 1/2 in round and top layer is 8-8- and 8 1/2 for the top. All brown buttercreme icing and all the pink is fondant. This was actually cake No. 2. First lesson don't tort tilted cake with pudding. Lesson No. 2 don't leave it on counter in evening sun. Lesson No. 3. don't trim an 8 in to be a 7 in and assume it'll support an 8in cake. Second time was a charm. I was really happy with how it turned out.

This cake was for a local cake compitition. My best friend and I worked on it together and we actually took 1st place, there was no theme so I just went fun. This is based off Korsokovs sypmphany Flight of the Bumble Bees. The music is copied from the actual sheet music. It was lots of fun!

Be gentle, this was my first ever wedding cake, and my first four tier cake, and my first topsy-turvy cake. My best friend married my husband's brother in a gorgeous outside wedding on Oct. 18th. She wanted a topsy-turvy with fall leaves. Leaves are gumpaste. Cake is fondant, and foam wedges are wrapped in fondant. The ribbon at the base of the foam wedges is real at the bride's request. This design was inspired by a cake by CCer veragatafera.
