My attempt to copy the awsome cakes in the gallery. My hats off (pun intended) to the cakemaker. I fear I fell short, but had fun in the process. Choc. cake with MMF covering and MMF/gumpaste brim. Handkerchief also MMF painted with Americolor gel.

The dome of the hat was baked in round casserole dish. I can't remember what size the bottom was. It took a long time to get that red, but it still wasn't a true red. I saw how to do the bow on a website AFTER I did the cake. Oh well!! Practice makes perfect!!!

Harry Potter cake for my neice. I made each of the scarves for the houses on the side of the cake and the sorting hat on top. I wanted to use the wondermold on an 11x15 but my sister waited till the last minute to set the party date.

This was made as a "guess the weight of the cake" prize. My mum is in charge of a marching display band, every year each jazz band has to donate a raffle prize etc to help raise funds for the UK federation of jazz bands. Hence my creation, this is a replica of the hat worn as part of a uniform in my mums Jazz band.

I did this cake for my nephew's first birthday. He orginally wanted a space ship, then after I had baked the cake he decided he wanted cat in the hat. So had to compromise and make do with what I had. I free handed the picture on the cake from an invitation. Thought I didn't do to bad of a job for never having any cake classes. Still working on trying to learn how to smooth out the icing.

Hand-carved cake (I didn't have a bowl the right shape - ugh!) covered in chocolate fondant which I colored black. Made for my twin nephews' third birthday, along with the fire truck cake.

Thank you Debbie aka thecakemaker for the inspiration! I wish mine had turned out as well as yours!

Made this for a small Red Hat Club luncheon - Red velvet cake with poured BC icing. Fondant ribbon and curly cues. BC roses. Used ball pan for top and a regular round pan for brim. Trimmed cake to make the angled brim.

This is the second cowboy hat I have done for the same client. I changed this one alittle by sponging on Witon brown mixed with everclear on with a wadded up paper towel. I also added MMF barbed wire and rope.

Strawberry Shortcake's Hat! A yellow cake with fresh strawberry and cream filling. The icing is BC (almond and butter flavors). The bow, ribbon, and flowers are fondant. She loved the cake! I got tons of compliments on it too. I saw the inspiration for this cake after doing a google search. Iloved the idea of having a different cake for a popular theme!

This was a hat cake I made for my mother's birthday. I had wanted to do a hat cake and used this as an excuse to make it. It was my first time using MMF. I found it dried rather quickly so I had a problem with the bow and rose. Turned out pretty well in the end though.

1/2 ball pan covered with violet mmf; trimmed with violet ribbons. Tulle is mixed with pearl and lavender stamens and ribbon. Roses are fondant; drop flowers and pearl beads are mmf. I was going for an antique look so I dusted the hat and decorations with Wedgewood first and then applied Antique Silk. This is my first time doing a hat and really enjoyed it. Learned alot as I went along for the next time. Inspiration came from CupCake's Blue Hat.

For this birthday, my daughter liked my idea of a summer bonnet. The brim is a pizza pan turned over, and the cake was baked in a pyrex bowl. This was my first attempt at basketweave. The white base it is sitting on is a large cutting board; my largest family cakes go on this. Sorry about the sideways view; I am having some software issues!
