My son decided a couple of days before his 6th birthday he wanted a Harry Potter cake! I made two large marble cakes and shaped the into book shapes then covered them seperatly with white fondant icing for the pages and then round the rest of the cake with coloured fondant icing and places one ontop of the other. Harry potter was made and shaped by hand i started with the broom and built him ontop of it, then placed him on the cake.

Wow, was this cake a challenge. Towers are icecream cones, big tower is RKT, 2 buildings are cake. Harry & Owl are gumpaste. Bottom layer is Triple chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. Top layer is French Vanilla with chocolate buttercream. Learned alot from this cake....mostly about what NOT to do, but it all worked out in the end and the little girl LOVED it. Thanks for looking!

My Neice wanted a Harry Potter cake with a sorting hat, golden snitch and a magic wand. This was the result. She helped make her cake. It is a chocolate puffed wheat cake with chocolate and plain marshmallow fondant. We used the small figurines she had as models for the cake. She was pretty happy with the result,

My little girl wanted a Harry Potter themed birthday cake for her 7th bday. Was inspired by many of the cakes on cakecentral! All the decorations are fondant with exception of the Harry Potter figure on top of the cake...my daughter wanted something to keep after the cake was eaten! The spiders on the plate were made by two of my little ones...they wanted to help with the cake.

three layers of 9x13 stacked then cut in half the long way. One half and a few inches of second half was used for the engine. Remainder of second half was used for the tender. Cake was then carved and covered in fondant. I had some issues with the MMF not drying so there was some buckling with the wheels and the front of the engine.

This is a classic example of good fondant gone bad due to humidity and late planning. I did not have enough supplies on hand to make more fondant and had to just make due, at 1 am, with the torn fondant I was working with. The glasses cracked right when I was delivering the cake so I used royal icing to "patch" them, The wand is gumpaste. Snitch is RK covered with fondant with royal icing wings covered with gold powder. I'm so glad small children are "forgiving"!!!
