1st atempt at suitcase modelled cake, base cake is a real cake. Cakes are a rich fruit cake with lots of rum, a West Indian family receipe! So base was strong enough to take the weight of the top cake. Use of edible liquid gold colour for the first time. Completed all modelling in sugarpaste. Done for a couple returning back from their Honeymoon. Really enjoyed this challenge. Sarah Sharpe

this was for a friend's son's 1 yr old birthday on the weekend. It was a freebie and got lots of interests from other moms there.. so hopefully I will get some orders in the near future. Been pretty quiet the last few weeks. Tigger, rainbow, pot of gold with coins, butterflies all made of fondant. Clouds look abit wierd I know.. should have done spiral movements instead.

This cake was made for the OSSAS show when the theme was a wedding cake fit for a queen. I came in 5th.

The symbols on the fan (to the left of the cake) mean "True Love" and I think the symbol on the cakes means "Eternity".

I think I used about 5 containers of gold and a couple of bottles of Everclear to paint this cake. The liquor store people gave me some odd looks. :)

Didn't turn out exactly as I planned and I just couldn't get the fondant to mold around the petal shape cakes properly :-(. 6in lemon cake with lemon buttercream on top of 9in strawberry cake with strawberry buttercream. Covered in fondant, painted with glacier blue luster dust and then decorated with hand-rolled fondant pearls, borders and roses painted with inca gold luster dust. I am having a high tea tomorrow and will post a pic of the whole table when set up (lots of cakes!).

Not sure what album to put this under so it's in weddings for now. It's a dummy from my cake booth, it was also made to show a bride a few different options for her cake.

I made this treasure chest for my sister's little boy. The top is made from rice crispie treats. I used bamboo skewers to prop the lid open. The cake is one 11 x 15, cut in half and stacked. The wood grain effect was done with a toothpick after the icing crusted. Chocolate coins and candies and plastic necklaces are on top.

The bride showed me a fondant covered cake out of a magazine, and asked me to replicate it on a smaller scale in buttercream. I wish I knew who did the original design, I would give credit. 6" and 10" square stacked cake, iced in buttercream. Double diamond design made using a ruler and patience. Edible gold dragees where each diamond meets. Bride provided the topper. Sorry the pic isn't great.

This cake is for a State Fair entry. It is covered in fondant. All scrolls are hand rolled, attached to the cake individually, and hand painted with super gold luster dust. Each pearl was hand set with tweezers (boy..this took a lot of time). Flowers made from fondant and hand painted. So many hours went into this cake, but I loved every minute of it. Comments welcome!!!!

Thanks to fairytale for the gold luster help. I couldn't figure out what to do w/ the double to get it to look nice, so I just went w/ the 50 on there. In addition to the gold luster dust, there is also shimmer dust on them but you can't really see it, I can't seem to get that stuff to work for me. Thanks for looking

My daughters 8th birthday cake, lots of first for this one, first time for a 3 tier stacked cake aswell as covering a real cake with fondant (tried a dummy before) and painting on a cake with luster dust. very time consuming took me 2 1/2 days to decorate. but it was worth it in the end. based on the colors of bratz genie magic manchester.

This was requested instead of a large wedding cake. I made 60 of them. They are yellow cake with strawberry preserves and a whipped icing recipe I learned where I work... it is very soft but smooths real nice. I used a putty knife to smooth, I love that tool! The monograms are a yellowish royal painted gold. The cake was cut using a 3.5" cutter and then iced, and the box is 5" around.

6", 8" and 10"X 3" pans used. Wilton initial, silk flowers with ivory ribbon and gold rope as a border. Thanks to my DH for the smooth look...he's the expert at home and loves the Viva towel method (yet to try the Melvira method). A couple of people asked if this was a fake cake because it looked so perfect. Thanks for looking!

This was my youngest sister's wedding cake. She wanted simple but elegant. All buttercream with gold ribbon around each tier and pearls line the ribbon. I hung prisms from the ceiling all around the cake table and all at different heights. When the lights hit the prisms, it was absolutely gorgeous.

This sheet cake was done for a small local wedding reception for a couple who lived and had married out-of-town. The scroll plaque is GP, the edges brushed with gold luster dust. The fruits - seckel pears, lady apples and grapes - are fresh and sugared with gold sanding sugar. The leaves are real grape leaves, washed, dried and brushed with gold luster dust. All the decor is BC.

I made this cake for a couple who solicited their friends and relatives to sponsor a Habitat for Humanity house in our community. They unselfishly donated $55,000 to our affiliate and helped to build a house for a family in need. I made this cake to thank them.
