I made this cake for a silent auction at a fundraising ball for a children's museum. They asked local bakers to contribute a cake. The cake is chocolate with a chocolate almond swiss meringue buttercream filling. I then covered the cake in chocolate fondant. The insects and flowers are gumpaste. The bumble bees are my favorite! I accented with buttercream grass and royal icing dots.

This was a 2 tiered topsy turvy cake. Covered in fondant, duckies made from gumpaste. It was for a friends baby shower and was a huge hit. I had a few problems with the humidity the night before but the problem was solved by dusting powdered sugar over the cake and dusting the excess off, you'd never know the difference.

This is the cake I did for the final cake in my Wilton Fondant & Gumpaste Class. All items are done out of a mixture of fonadant & gumpaste. I hate doing the cakes out of the book and my teacher was more than willing to let our imagination's run wild. Thanks for looking.

This cake design is from the Wilton Fondant and Gumpaste course. It was not one of the grand finale cake designs, but I liked it better than the other designs, so my instructor let me do it. There are forty!!! daisies on this cake. Needless to say, I got pretty good at daisies by the time I was done.

Tinkerbell. Aunt picked the style from another picture she found on the internet. Original picture had RI drop flowers. This cake has fondant/gumpaste flowers on a buttercream frosting. Luster dust used liberally as you can see ;)

Finally I finished it......very spring/Easter like but I'm pleased about it (even though I can see imperfections). I just hope my boss likes it - it's for her 50th birthday and she loves bunnies.
thanks for looking!

KUDOS to lonestamper on her design of this cake. I used rice krispie treats covered with buttercream icing for Raphael, candy clay covered cake board for manhole cover, base and cake side. Fondant and gumpaste for letters, mask and hands. This was fun to make for a coworkers' son.

My first fondant cake for the Fondant and Gumpaste course. We had to make a sampler cake showing a drape, garland and hankerchief. It's a snickerdoodle cake with cinnamon buttercream and vanilla fondant.

The tree, figures, tombstones, stonework, door, roof and shutters are all fondant. The "ivy" is wheaties & tinted marshmallow (rice krispy treat recipe), the "dirt" is graham cracker and cookie crumbs, the windows are melted suckers. Sits on a carved (for the graves) styrofoam base. This was a table centerpiece for Halloween.

Since the groom felt that I was the push that got them to finally get married, he asked for a cake for himself that was carrot. I made a carrot/pineapple/walnut cake that is to die for with buttercream icing. It had to sit out overnight. These are my first figures (thanks Aine2 for your great tutorials!) I used gumpaste and fondant combinations. The couple love the water and canoeing.

I made this back in late Aug. The bride wanted something really simple but elegant and I came up with this design for her. The topper is a mixture of roses, hypericum berries, ranunculus, callas and ivy gumpaste flowers. TFL!

This is my final cake from my first Fondant and Gumpaste class, but since it's a Christmas theme I decided to put it here instead of in the first cake class area. Those are silver and gold dragees running down the ribbon, and pink ones in the center berries.

This was my very 1st attempt at 3D figures...actually it was my very 1st attempt even working with fondant or gumpaste...It was for my daughters 1st birthday cake, and its from the Nick Jr tv show "The Wonder Pets!" Theres Linny (Hamster), Tuck (turtle), and Ming Ming (Chick). I used 50/50 Wilton fondant and gumpaste, and Wilton gel colors. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

Everything is fondant. The "brass" eagle, shield, buckle, brim and bugle medallions were all made about 2 weeks prior to cake construction to allow for drying time. Thanks to everyone for suggestions and help!

My third cake. This time I learned how to smooth buttercream (Viva rocks!) and how to keep my fondant and gumpaste from cracking. The problem this time was that my buttecream kind of dried out overnight, and started getting all droopy. I used corn syrup and vinegar in the icing to help prevent cracking, but it still dried and slid. I gotta search the forums for an answer to that issue. But I'm getting there. Practice makes perfect. The only things not edible on this cake are the wires and cake topper

This was an experiment that didn't work out too well. I used a 7, 6, 7 and stacked them and then I frosted. I think I had too much frosting..... not sure. The fondant may have been to thick too. I had to make a cake and wanted to try something new and use up leftover fondant. (see my package cake to see the original use! LOL ) Bow is done with Franjmc's method again.... she is totally right about using a ruler on the stitching!! Do not try to wing it! LOL!
