My niece turned 11... She had seen my first flip flop cake a few months ago and picked that as her cake for last Friday. This time I used the WBH White Butter cake, a new (to me) buttercream recipe that uses 2c Crisco, 2 lbs powdered sugar, 1 envelope Dream Whip, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 c milk, 2 tsp vanilla ( I used 1 tsp Princess emulsion), and 1 Tbsp of clear corn syrup. I was very pleased with the icing results.. and my oldest niece really complimented the flavor.fondantdots edited to add new pic with candle

This was a cake I came up with for a beach style party at My house. It was my first time carving cake, to make the flip-flops. Everyone loved it, they didn't even notice I need practice on my sculpting skills.

my attempt at a flip flop cake. The flowers are silk - they came out really dark in the picture but looked ok in person. I used airhead candies for the toe thingies (nice technical term). thanks for looking

Sorry the picture was so blurry... my camera... Im ready to chunk it in the river!! This is the only pix I had... but it was so cute I couldnt resist. Maybe someone else could expand the concept. The flip flops are fondant and the trees are pretzels with fondant using a 352 tip (I think--leaf tip).

This is my dummy cake for my county fair. It won a blue ribbon and Best of Show in the cake decoration division. It is covered in fondant with fondant circles. The flowers are gumpaste as well as the thong part, painted with silver luster dust. The sand is graham crackers and brown sugar. The seashells are real.

Okay, this was my very first try with fondant. And it was the yucky store bought kind. Still a cute cake though. The cake and the flip flops are covered in Buttercram and the straps and the bee are fondant.

White cake baked and shaped like a flop. Icing is buttercream spread as smooth as I could get it. Polka dots are green buttercream. On the cupcakes, it's reverse. On cake board, I spread some icing to adhere the grahm cracker crumbs to resemble sand, and the thongs are Sour Patch Straws. (White cake mix - boxed, and simple Wilton buttercream recipe).

The birthday girl is a strictly flip-flops girl and loves skulls so I combined both for her birthday cake. Didn't have any styrofoam in the house for the lid so found something in an old box which was very soft so I am not thrilled with the lid, but overall was relatively easy to make and lots of fun.
