For my stepdaughter's wedding on March 31, 2007. The display titled "Alicia's Big Catch" had 3 cakes: 1) a fondant-covered FISH (apple cinamon) painted in edible colors and luster dust, 2) a buttercream "camo" cake (strawberry chocolate chip) with a comic bride and groom topper, and 3) a buttercream basketweave fishing creel (chocolate). I hadn't decorated cakes for about 3 years, and it was fun to do this again. This was my 1st fondant project. RIGHT-CLICK Photo and "Open in New Window" for CLOSEUP!

This was the first fish cake I created using fondant (it was apple-cinamon cake) back in February 2007 in preparation for my stepdaughter's wedding on March 31, 2007. I baked the 3 cakes that made up the Grooms Cake Display entitled "Alicia's BIG Catch" - this was my first-ever fondant project and it was a LOT of fun! I used mini-marshmallow fondant after trying and not liking the traditional recipie.

A groom's cake for an avid fisherman. It is a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling decorated in chocolate icing and piping gel for the water. Can't take credit for this idea I saw something similar here on CC. Thanks for all the inspiration. This was my first grooms cake and only my second paid cake. I can use all the constructive criticism I can get.

Fish cake is red velvet covered with buttercream and marshmallow fondant and then air brushed. This was my first time to use an air brush, so I was not too happy with the fish. He looked way better before I ever painted him. Oh well, my friend really enjoyed it.

Little Fisherman sitting on a tree stump is made from fondant and his little fish is a mini-bites goldfish cracker. The cake is Double Chocolate Layer Cake with Bittersweet Chocolate frosting. The grass is buttercream and the little pond is sky blue colored piping gel (my camera makes up its own colors). This cake was ordered for my customer's hubby's 60th Birthday.

Carved this cake from two large oval cakes. Covered in BC, applied luster and petal dusts with a brush to get the effect of scales. Also used an impression mat for the scales. Background is royal icing petal dusted blue and crushed nilla wafers for sea floor, lure, hook, and fins are fondant.

This idea came from girltrapped. Her cake is better though. I told my friend I wouldn't do a person again. My husband said the fisherman looks like Kermit The Frog, I happen to agree. I kept messing with the facial features and I just had to stop before it got worse. Before Kermit, he looked like a puppy dog. I wish I could be proud of this cake but I am not because of the fisherman. I plan to stay away from facial features.

Man fishing at a pond. This was a cake I had to come up with quick, so not the best I have made. According to some who gave me their opinion, the grass needed to be cut :)

This is a 10" round cake with buttercream icing. The pond is piping gel tinted blue. Log, boy and man and rocks are fondant. Fishing poles are toothpicks and string. Trees are icecream cones covered in royal icing. This is for a grandfather and grandson who share the same birthday and a love of fishing.

The bottom tier is Chocolate covered cherry with chocolate buttercream frosting, the middle is french vanilla with vanilla BC, and the top is fresh strawberry cake with vanilla BC. All covered in MMF and all the figures, rocks are fondant/gumpaste. This was for a 50th birthday where the wife asked me to incorporate hunting, fishing, and the family into the theme. The two white cakes on top were carved into the numbers "5" & "0" and covered in BC. This was my first paid cake!!

This was my first groom's cake! It's based on/inspired by the Colette Peters cake from the mystery cake challenge on Food Network. It's a 14, 10, 6 chocolate cake, WBH cookies & cream filling, buttercream frosting. The seashells are gumpaste, and the fish are actual fishing lures. The gumpaste ones I made were too heavy! It was my first time attempting to airbrush. I was nervous about it, but pretty happy with how it turned out!

I made this cake for my boss who loves to fish. It is lemon cake with lemon filling and bc icing. Then covered in MMF and hand painted with silver and white luster dust and different shades of blue icing colors. The fins and tomatoes are also MMF. The tomato stems and lettuce are bc. Lemons are candied lemon slices. Many thanks to LAJUANA for inspiring me with her version and helping me with instructions. This is a Colette Peters design but I could not have pulled it off without LAJUANA'S help!

This was for dh's grandpa's 73rd birthday. The top was the first sugar-free cake i had ever done (grandpa is diabetic) and the figure also my first... my first fish... first dock.. blah blah. could've ended up worse. the writing says Happy 1st Birthday Party! figure & fishies are fondant, iced in Frostin' Pride, bottom is white cake with raspberry filling, top is chocolate sugar-free cake with sugar-free icing (which tasted mostly like pudding)

This young man loves to hunt, fish, and camp and wants a black four wheel drive truck someday. Tried to get ALL those elements in, but, didn't come up with anything for hunting. Mom STILL loved it! Thanks for looking!
