this was my first attempt at a character cake. I was so proud making it for my granddauthers 3rd b-day. When I finished I asked her how she liked it and she said to me Dors doesn't wear red shorts, there are supoossed to be ORANGE (lol) So I took off the red and made them orange. So much for following the pan instructions. (someone should let Wilton know)

This is a cake I made for my niece's second birthday. She was a huge Dora fan at the time. White buttercream with Royal icing transfers. (This was the first time that I attempted working with Royal icing.) Placed wax paper over the desired pictures in a Dora book then iced the image and let dry. When dry I transferred it to the top of the cake. After several hours of travel time to the party, the Royal icing was soft as it absorbed moisture from the buttercream. Not sure if I will do it again.

This cake was made for my neices 3rd birthday! She is allergic to dairy and a lot of other things, so this is a totally organic cake made just for her. It was my first time making a cake like this and it was odd to me how it didn't "rise" the way that a "normal" cake does. She really wanted to have a Dora cake and she loves the stars on the show!

This was my first attempt at a FBCT. I did it several days ago and stored it in the freezer for safe keeping, but of course, on the day that I actually have to place it on the cake...it cracks! Nonetheless, I had fun making it, and will certainly try it again! Spirals were inspired by the many cakes on this site!

Yellow with raspberry buttercream filling. Was pretty happy with this one. I tried a slightly different technique for filling in the white icing areas, and it didn't come out with the lines I've had to fix afterwards.

I made this cake, my first attempt at a doll cake, for my daughter's 2nd birthday. I had some trouble with cake crumbs getting into the yellow icing...just something I have to work on in the future.

This cake was made as a joke for my brothers birthday. He watches Dora every day, with his little boy, & never shuts up about it, so I thought it only right that he had Dora as his cake this year. He definitely saw the funny side & absolutely loved it!

Here is a picture of the Dora the Explorer birthday cake that I did for my 3 year old daughter. The top layer is double layer 6" round cherry chip cake with raspberry filling. The bottom layer is a double layer 10" white cake with raspberry filling. The frosting is the buttercream recipe using Sweetex. I used a 6" cardboard plate covered in foil in between the 2 cakes. I bought the Dora, Boots, and Swiper toys as a 3 piece set from any toy department. The star candles came in a 6 pack. WOW! It was good!
