My Wilton instructor gave us free reign with the design of our final cake, providing we did it stacked or tiered. I used this chance to try gelatin flowers. I felt like I needed to do something on this cake that we learned in the course so I made the leaves in cornelli lace. I need to work on smooting my icing and will have to stack / tier a few more cakes before it feels natural but this was fun!

This is my "pretty in pink" cake. I love the way cornelli lace looks but it was killing my hand! So that's why it's a little messy.

This was a cake of firsts. First time working with MMF, first time covering a round with fondant, first time with cornelli lace, and first time using the enhanced cake mix formula. I love the texture of the cake mix formula. The cake is much easier to work with.

Trying my hand at cornelli lace. I really enjoyed it and next time, I'll attempt a whole cake with it on there. The cake is lemon with all buttercream.

Anniversary cake for my Aunt and Uncle. The bottom layer was chocolate and the top was yellow. BC icing with ribbon on bottom. The "lace" on top was made using G,D, and S...their initials. I also hid the written anniversary date and their names in the detail. See second picture for close up and highlights. Thanks for looking!

Wanted to try out my cornelli lace since I hadn't done it for a while... I like the way that part turned out, but don't like the center part.

This cake was for a woman that was taking a year off from work, volunteering(sp?). So her coworkers wanted to tell her to take care of her and that they love her. I had some fondant roses already made, so I painted a little pearl dust over them to make them shiny and pretty, and I had some plastic leaves also.

Here is a cake I did for my SIL. She's a pastry chef in NYC so I was under a little pressure on this one. I'm very happy with how it came out and everyone loved it - they had never seen one like this before. I must thank Cakeconfections and Tripletmom for their help and inspiration for this cake. You guys are the best!

I borrowed this idea from Cakemommy. I LOVED the rope idea, so I showed my husband and he just had to have me do one for a congrats cake for the Coast Guard. Thanks so much Cakemommy!!!!

I did this cake for my fathers birthday. I wanted to get practice using cornelli lace. Men are hard to do cakes for ,but I think this cake is pretty, but masculine at the same time.

This is a cake for a gal who's getting out of the Navy! She's from Idaho so her friends wanted me to do something with potatoes and her fiancee wanted a flag so here's what I came up with. Hopefully she'll be surprised! Marble cake with milk chocolate ganache filling

This one was REALLY fun after the disasterous Snare Drum I did yesterday (until 3:30am today). It's scratch white cake with all buttercream. I borrowed the idea from Cinico...thanks to you for the inspiration!

This was my first "big" cake. 11x15, two layers and a filling. Made for 3 birthdays at my husband's work. 1st time trying Cornelli lace also. It was fun to do, but MAN, that's a heavy cake! Had to use 5 cake boards under it so it didn't bend!!

White cake with ivory buttercream frosting and decorations. I wasn't sure which category to place this under - it could be used for so many things. I happen to be using it for a birthday cake, but it would suit an anniversary or shower cake just as easily!

This is a devils food and all buttercream 8",6", and 4" mini wedding cake for a friend's anniversary. They didn't have a wedding cake, so she wanted it to look like a real wedding cake...I hope that it does. It's my FIRST time making roses EVER! They aren't super hard, but they're hard to do properly. Also my FIRST time doing the bead border. I need LOTS more practice, but it's coming along.
