This girly first birthday cake has a surprise inside: six thin rainbow-colored layers (thanks for the idea, starlight_fantasy) . It's fondant-covered almond pound cake (my go-to birthday cake recipe). The birthday girl had a pair of pink converses that she never took off. I got the .idea for the shy bunny from one posted here by mura. This was my first time making ruffles and using an impression mat

I attempted to make the baby converse shoes (but didn't do them high tops) from the template by stellastarchild. Thanks so much to her for putting those up! I think if I ever do them again, I'll know what to do better. The footsteps were done with a handrawn template and an exacto knife. Inscription on the board is done with edible markers/pens. This is two tier white chocolate mud cake with white chocolate ganache, then covered in fondant. TFL.

For a friend who loves her chucks. Had a LOT of problems with the fondant because of the humidity. Ran out of time (and patience) to put the laces on the shoe (a little embarassed about that) It's a 9 inch caramel cake with vanilla buttercream.

My FIRST baby shower cake, for a family member; inspired by many on CC. Very challenging making a cake 400 miles away from home. So many things went wrong! The top cake of the bottom tier split everywhere as I was moving it around to fill & ice it -- it looked like an earthquake had struck & I had to do such a patchwork job on it. I just KNEW the bottom tier was going to completely collapse, especially once I stacked the top tier on it. But the cake gods were smiling upon me & it somehow held together! 10" bottom tier is triple chocolate with peanut butter filling, 8" top tier is WASC with lemon creme filling; all covered in vanilla BC with fondant accents. Shoes are 50/50 with gum paste laces. I wish I'd done many things different, but everyone (especially the mom-to-be) was in awe, and that's the most important thing!
