This was for my boys who are Superfriends fanatics. The cartoon is very bright and light-hearted. I ran out of time to sculpt the figures well so I had to buy action figures instead. These looked more menacing so I went way darker with the cake. The buildings represent iconic buildings from each of our hometowns, our current town and the Hall of Justice. Would have done a few things differently but, for as many issues (and visitiing family who were here), I'll give it a pass.

Cake #8 - Comic book themed cake for my son. Iced in white, and either sprayed using stencils and then did details by hand. All 3-d was rice krispies covered in fondant and hand painted. Thor side was damaged during transport (rubbed against my moms shirt - never let anyone else carry your cakes!)

I made this cake for my 34rd birthday. I loved wonder woman when I was a kid and I saw one on this website and decided to make one for myself. Thanks for sharing your picture so that I was able to make this cake. I had so many compliments on it.

First two tiers are iced in buttercream. Top tier (the building) is covered in fondant. All accents are fondant, including the spiderman which was molded by hand. I should have used 50/50 gumpaste/fondant mix for spiderman though. He was a little more 'hunched over' than I wanted. Couldn't get him to stay upright. Turned out pretty good despite his lazy posture. :)

This was for my son's birthday - it was my first attempt at oh so many things. Mainly because of this (and my awful time management), a LOT of things went wrong with this cake. I didn?t post it because it did not come out the way I wanted, but I?ve had a couple of requests and I?m proud of the idea behind it, so here goes. The top two tiers are chocolate filled with ganache, the bottom two are creme brulee cake with BC and caramel filling. The superheros and comic sounds are chocolate transfers. It was supposed to be covered in fondant (two layers w/ cutout windows), but my grey MMF was purple and totally the wrong consistency, so I had to do a last minute BC and didn't make enough so it's awfully crumby. My chocolate transfers fell apart because I didn't follow the directions fully, and it was my first time stacking more than two tiers so it wasn't quite stable and got a bit wonky. I've gotten better since then - go see my other photos, really! The transfers originally were Batman, Spiderman, Ironman, the Hulk, Superman, Wolverine, and Thor. My son loved it and so did everyone at the party - they even liked how it was leaning because they thought it looked like it was right out of a comic book. I also included a pic of the cake board - since that came out just the way I wanted!

One sheet cake and two half ball cakes covered with buttercream, then MMF. I made the box sides, the face elements, the ears, the paws and the tail in advance. It was my first time modeling fondant and it was hard to get the proportions right.

When I put the elements on the head, the eyes cracked and the mouth crumbled in my hands. I had just put the orange fondant and it had teared in many places. After 5 nights of work, I was so disappointed ! But I got over it and managed to hide the tears and cracks and I had to make a new mouth.

I made two Garfields so that my son would have one for his friends party and one for the family party. The first one was my experiment, but the second one was a charm. It's always easier when you've made it once!
