Vanilla cake (pink and white layers) with BC frosting. Towers are homemade out of paper towel rolls and ice cream cones glued together with royal frosting. Towers are covered in homemade MMF. Decorations are BC and MMF. This was for my daughter's 4th birthday. It was my first try at a castle cake. It was so much fun!

This is my first castle cake. It turned out better than I expected, but I so would have done things differently now. There just wasn't enough time! The cake is all Creamcheese frosting and chocolate fudge cake.
I hope to do another castle cake soon to put everything I learned from this one into it!

turrets: are fondant, flowers and trees are royal icing

This was my first attempt at cake baking and it was a big success. The bottom is a 10-inch square (I used the epicurious chocolate layer cake with chocolate ganache in the center). The top is an 8-inch round (I used Rose Berenbaum's Velvet White Cake with Neoclassic buttercream). The whole thing was iced in neoclassic buttercream with a very, very thin layer of off-white frosting to get the colour I wanted. The turrets are paper towel rolls covered in saran wrap, then rolled in white chocolate. They are topped with an ice cream cone cup (also rolled in white chocolate), then topped with an upside-down sugar cone rolled in white chocolate and then pink & clear sugar crystals. The windows, door, flowers and leaves are all royal icing that I made in advance. The princesses are just decorations. The bridge is made of wafer cookies.
Thanks to all the other people who uploaded castle cake pictures on this site- I couldn't have done this without the help of cakecentral!

This was the first time I made a castle. I had a lot of problems and at the end wasn't really happy with it. I just didn't give myself enough time. The towers are from the Wilton Castle kit and thank goodness for those!

Easy to make...square pans, ice cream cones, frosting and pleanty of sugar sprinkles...ta da instant princess smiles! I frosted the sugar cones and then rolled them in clear and pink sprinkles to give it extra shimmer. That doesn't come through in the picture but the rest is pretty easy to see. The bottoms of the regular cones need to be cut off to fit the sugar cones on top a bit of frosting inside helps to secure it. Just don't make it too far in advance because the cones will get soggy after absorbing the liquid in the frosting. I made this the day before and all was fine.

This castle cake was a lot of work. It would of been nice if the towers were hollow at the bottom. Transporting the cake was a bit tricky. Next time I will place the towers in the cake after transporting it.

I made this cake for my daughters 5th birthday last August.
I had never worked with fondant before but it was fun and turned out great none the less.
I can't wait to try this cake again now that I have some knowledge of fondant under my belt :)
