This was the first of three cakes I made for a celebration of the 70th anniversary of my father-in-law's Bar Mitzvah. Tradition is to pass a basket of candy and when the Bar Mitzvah boy finishes chanting his portion of Torah (Hebrew Bible) to throw candy at him to wish him a sweet life. This was my first basket weave and the "candy" was very small cakeballs wrapped in squares of natually colored fondant. The cake was orange cake with Grand Marnier flavored chocolate Mousseline "Buttercream"

This was a practice cake for a wedding shower I will be doing soon. I wanted to try using candy clay because I've never tried it before. I just cannot get my white buttercream smooth, though. I would love some suggestions!!

Tried to get a "baby blue" or even lighter, but LOL, it came out dark anyway. Top layer is chocolate with cookies and cream filling, and the bottom layer is yellow cake with coffee flavored whipped cream. I made the roses and borders out of candy clay.

Wanted to do something special and fun so made these! Eyes from M&Ms, hair from sugar cookie dough (and some covered with chocolate), lips from Hot Tamales, suits from fruit leather and ties from flattened Starburst :)

I made this at my son's request for his Valentine celebration at the YMCA after school program. It was a red velvet cake with buttercream and red Satin Ice fondant embossed using cutters. The candys were purchased. Some of the kids were afraid to eat "red cake".

Most of the decoration on this cake was made of candy clay. This cake was so much fun to make. Tinker bell face was hard to do, but tried my best. :)

This cake was made for a Happy Birthday Jesus party at our kids Sunday School. The candy cane shape upside down is to represent Jesus, based on the "Candy Cane Story". The only problem was I forgot to flip my stencil, The "J" was backwards. Thank God it was just a bunch of 3 to 5 year olds.

The tree is an icecream cone covered with buttercream using #352. The candycanes are real candycanes. Powdered sugar created the "snow effect." Santa is a chocolate foil covered candy on a mini-Hershey's chocolate and candy canes for his sleigh.

This is a cake that I did for s project class that I am teaching in April. The cake uses fondant, airbrushing, molded gumpaste, hand painted accents and luster dust. The coral and sand dollars are made of royal icing and have airbrushed color or luster dust on them to add color or highlights.

Not my favorite design, but this was the bride's choice. I did get a chance to make my roses out of starburst candy. It took a long time, wish I could master making them out of icing!

Covered in buttercream icing. The vine border is supposed to match a sample they gave me for the babies room. I painted the vine using buttercream. The decorations on top are molded out of candy clay. I made a chocolate plaque that says "April's Shower brings May a flower" which I laid in front of the bottom layer. Thanks for looking.

This was my first attempt at the basket effect. I had fun with this one. I wasn't too happy with the fondant "bow". I covered it in sugar sprinkles, but still didn't like it. The inside of the cake is pink, blue and yellow swirl.

I usually make up my cakes but I used a book for this one. It was quite difficult to make the back bit secure enough!! and I'd never used butter icing before this so it was a bit of a challenge!!

My sister has asked for a few different things for her wedding cake. She is thinking she wants a soft pink. She lives across the country, so I made this cake to practice and see if I am getting the colors right.

From the Wilton yearbook. I used the checkerboard cake pan set (but only made one layer) so that the colors seen in the frosting are the same as the rings of the actual cake. When a piece is cut, it looks like a piece of candy corn. Should've taken a picture after a piece was cut, but didn't want to mess it up! :)

I made this 12" heart cake & donated it to a local Church for a raffle. It earned $125.00. The silhouette and letters were made from a purchased candy mold and flavored with Creme DeMenthe (non-alcoholic). Edible glitter was placed under the Cameo. The batter was white marble, torted with chocolate filling (non-dairy), iced with chocolate buttercream, and decorated with caramel flavored french buttercream. The 30 miniature 1/2" roses were made of caramel flavored french buttercream.

Made a tres leches cake for my sensei who loves this type of cake. Cake also has fresh cut strawberries in the filling and decorated with Pastry Pride. Bow was interesting because I tried making it with just candy clay, but it's been too warm and humid here in San Diego, so I had to redo them by mixing the candy clay with fondant and gumtex. It was a little better, but still sagged a little after 4 days of letting it dry. At least the fondant tasted a lot better :)

This was a gift for my boys music teacher, it is his first year anniversary. Chocolate Cake with white chocolate icing, white chocolate candy clay covering and flowers. Couldn't get the candy clay to lay smooth so I just pleated. I like the way it turned out.

A 2 layer 10" cake. One layer is chocolate and the other white. Filling is crushed Butterfingers and Peanutbutter cups mixed in buttercream. Ganache fudge drizzled on the sides with crushed Butterfinger accents and Peanutbuttercup garnishes on top. After I did this "surprise" cake the joke was on me.....she was alergic to chocolate!!

This was a last minute order for a Xmas party. So I just carved a candy cane out of a sheet cake, striped red on it added sprinkles, fondant leaves, etc. all on a red velvet cake. I also added some peppermint bark, although next time I think I will just leave the bark in a slab.

My mom gave me a bag of the fruit flavoured Tootsie Rolls for my birthday. I don't particularly enjoy candy, so I put them to good use. The kids want them on their birthday cakes now!
