I made this cake for my niece's first birthday. Chocolate cake with buttercream icing. This was her smash cake but she wouldn't touch it because she didn't want to get her hands dirty. Oh well, the other kids at the party enjoyed it. Thanks for looking.

All buttercream. I wish I could claim this cake as my original design, but I can't. A previous decorater that woked at the bakery that I currently work at designed this cake. Hers looked much better than this one!

This is 2nd shaped cake that I ever made. Its a maderia cake with red and black buttercream, chocolate on the body, liquorice strip along the top,a cupcake for the head, pipe cleaners for antenne and coconut for grass. I got the directions from a Womens Weekly childrens cake book.I used too much black gel paste.Tasted it and it colored everything...tongue,lips,gums hahaha
The red was alright.

I made this for a co-worker who's daughter is 2 today. She loves bugs!! I tried to make it as girly as possible. :0)

It's carrot cake with the crusting cream cheese icing recipe from this site. I put 2 loaf pans end to end and used a scrap hunk for the top part of the log sticking up. The bugs and flowers are made of gum paste (my first time playing with this) and everything is edible except for the bee stingers and the butterfly antennae.

Thanks for looking!

I did this cake for a woman that wanted to have an insect theme for her son's 8th birthday. The body is a bundt pan cut in half, and I used the mini-balloon mold (the one with 6 mini-cakes) for the feet, face and butt. I had to cut the pointed end off the balloons for the feet, but I kept it on for the ends. The feet are Wilton tip 16 stars, and the fur is Wilton tip 233. I love how it turned out. The only problem is that the lettering didn't make it to the customer - it stuck to the lid of the box :-(

Tried the chocolate transfer technique from TWB. Took a couple of tries, but turned out very cute in the end. Also used their house bc recipe; delicious and wonderful to work with! Not a crusting bc but so much better than wilton, I think. Lots of fun to make!

This is a sneak peek! I am not sure if this is exactly how I'll lay it out..but this is the general idea...still working on it. See the little spidey with the party hat and their little leaf plates and flower spoons? And do you see the little floral b-day cake with candles?? Isn't it fun!? I can't wait to finish...there will be a little ladder and possibly a leaf swing...??? Check back tomorrow...it's due tomorrow eve...

I did this cake for a set of 4yr twins who loves bugs. I iced the two tiers with green and used different shades of green and different leaf tips to cover the sides. I then added plastic bugs all to the sides. I wanted the boys to have their own cakes, so I finished it off with thier individual bug (half the ball pan). It was a hit!! Easy to do!!

This is for my daughter's 8th birthday. She made most of the MMF bugs herself and chose the colors and theme from this site. Thanks for the inspiration. Lemon cake with lemon cream cheese filling, iced with crusting buttercream. My first time trying the viva method.

This was a cake I made for my co-worker who just got approved to start an entomology lab. It's an airbrushed flesh fly complete with fondant wings, larvae, maggots, and eggs. The finishing touch was an edible image of a nasty set of jaws. I will post the front view.
