Here is a picture of a recent cake I made for my cousin-in-law. I made the butterflies with a cookie cutter impression and then took a #3 round tip to make an outline of the butterfly. I took a small art brush (used exclusively for cake decorating) and brushed the icing to the middle. I used a #352 tip to make the stalks and the border. I then outlined the butterflies and the stalks in black to make them "pop".

This cake is cookies-n-cream filling covered in fondx (sooo good). The dogwood is gumpaste with royal icing centers. I tried brushed embroidery for the flowers on the side and the sparrows. I used a little teal luster dust over the sparrows for added sparkle. The pattern on the sides of the cake were inspired by a shabby chic pillow I saw in a magazine.

This is my first cake covered in fondant, and with brush embroidery. I am very happy with how the fondant came out, but I think I still need to work on the brush embroidery a little...

My first attempt at brush embroidery! The top tier is yellow cake with chocolate bavarian filling, the bottom is yellow cake with raspberry filling. All MMF with royal brush embroidery and the flowers and ribbons are gumpaste, which I'm pretty pleased with....folks thought they were silk, which I took as a compliment!

16 in round, 12 in round, 8 in round, all white chocolate whisper cake with raspberry filling. Turned out too thin to use my stress free supports, so I'm stressed. Plus I hate that the top of the top tier isn't level...why didn't I see that BEFORE I delivered it??? But the bride liked it.

This cake is iced smooth with buttercream. A friend of my moms daughter was very specific as to what type of flower and how she wanted the branches to vine. The looping branches on the bottom are to replicate her dresser when she was growing up. Leaves, petal flower sand lotus blossoms are all done with brushed embroidery. My first time doing this technique.

My first attempt at brush embroidery, I made this for my in-law's anniversary. Hazelnut cake with Nutella buttercream & Frangelico fondant. Not completely happy with the brush embroidery, but I learned some things for next time!

Fondant is so much fun to work with, but very unforgiving. You certainly
can't just fix a boo-boo as with BC. Lost a few rose petals on the trip back home from class but otherwise I was pleased with this one. I rushed too much on my brushed embroidery but I plan on doing alot more practice so I can do as well as others on CC. Can't wait for the Fondant & Gumpaste class to start!

This cake was my nightmare cake - had to redo it 3 times!! Its 12 10 8 & 6 inch rounds, covered in fondant. Airbrushed a dark purple base for the flowers and then piped over top in BC. Did a brushed embroidery around the flower. I'm actually happy with how it turned out... even though it was a nightmare.

I had some cake batter leftover so I made a one layer 6 inch cake and tried the brush embroidery on it... I don't really care for the effect but thought this would go along good with the other cake as a bonus to the lady that bought it from me for her granddaughter.

I needed to try out this brush embroidery technique because right now I am working on a 4-tier 50th birthday party cake that is going to look similar to this cake. It was the first time I have done this technique and it was a lot of fun! All in BC.

... Do you ever complete a cake and just feel "Eh." about it. Unfortunately, that's how I feel about this one. I was told "pink, yellow, purple" and "flowers and butterflies"... then had to come up with something (p.s. I finished and it is 3am, was up at 7am for school then worked 8 hours waitressing then finished this cake). Anyways, I guess this one just isn't creative enough for me. Thanks for looking though:) All in buttercream with FEATHER butterflies.

DH and I are taking a camping trip this weekend with three other couples. Two of the girl's birthdays are this weekend so I made this cake for them. It's cool because *I* get to have some, too! LOL All buttercream, with leaves done using the brush embroidery technique.
