Anyone know how I could have finished the bottom neatly? For some reason I do better with novelty cakes...these ones that "everyone" knows how to do are difficult for me for some reason! Anyway the bow is made of candy...I tried a fondant one and it didn't work out so someone showed me how to make the candy melt kind and it did work! I definately need practice though.... no wonder I can't get any wedding cake orders!!!!

This cake was done for a co-workers daughter, who was turning 21. These are the colors she wanted.

the cake itself is three layers of Kaye's chocolate butter cake, with cookies and cream filling..yum! It is covered in white chocolate fondnat. the bow is also white chocolate fondant. It was my first time making a bow. Not bad for my first time. :)

My co-worker and her daughter both LOVED it! Thanks for looking.

Still practicing with MMF...I think I may have finally gotten a feel for it! This is my practice dummy, it is always displayed on my kitchen table. It is done from leftover MMF from my weekend cakes. I change it with the seasons (or when the mood strikes me!) Had so much fun making the bow and may make another one for a baby shower cake stis weekend!

Any tips or constructive critism welcome and appreciated!

Went to lunch with some friends today and this gorgeous cake was a present I received from my good buddy Min. I love oval cakes!!! It's a banana cake with cream cheese filling, covered in fondant, with hand made gumpaste tulips, and a fondant bow. It has a really cute button at the back too, forgot to take a picture of it. The lady with the tulip is me, it's so funny because it's such a good representation of me decorating, with hair tied up and bits of hair sticking up in every direction.

This was a pretty simple cake. It looked better in person and did not photograph well at all. 15,11,7 inch tiers. Nothing really special the bow is gumpaste with super pearl luster dust.

Thanks for looking.

This was for a 10 yr. old b-day, her dad ordered it and said that she liked bright colors, he said that she liked hot pink, lime green, etc.....So this is what I came up with. Lime green, hot pink, orange, and yellow. I love the bow on this cake, I would like to get this for my b-day. Butter cake on bottom, chocolate on top with buttercream and fondant accents.

It's not bad, is it? Maybe the little ribbon sticking out of the top is goofy. Pull it out? Can I pull it out without ruining the bow? Thanks to those that helped me out!!! I can make a bow! Woo-hooo!

Made this as part of Wilton Course III. My 2nd all fondant covered cake, 1st attempt at MMF. A few problems, but learned a lot. MMF was too dry, so "elephant skin" appearance and some cracks (able to cover some with flowers). When I trimmed the bottom, I cut it a little too short in some spots, so I tried to hide it with the bead border - class book called for tip 5, I used # 10 to try and cover my mistake. Overall, pretty happy with how it came out. Open to constructive criticism - thanks.

I wanted to practice using the MMF, which I have never made. I love it! I still need practice on smoothing the bottom of a cake with fondant but I loved working with it!

This cake was an experiment. It is a 9" square orange cake with orange BC. This was my first time to make this recipe. It evolved as I was making it, adding a little of this and a little of that. I tasted the scraps and it is delicious. This is also my first loop bow. It is made of MMF. Overall I am pleased with the cake, but I have plenty of room for improvement. It is hard to get that good clean look of fondant when using BC. I wish my stripes were more even and straight.
Thanks for looking
