A whimsical cake for a spring wedding. I made the cake, but copied the design from a cake I saw online.

My attempt at a whimsical cake. Forgot to angle the bottom before I torted so I had a flat base. Cake is 10" on the bottom, 6" for the middle and a cupcake for the top. Fondant decorations.

A cake made to match the birthday invitation. I hand-molded the bees and decorated the cake with fondant. The cake itseld is made from crusting BC. I got the recipe here and this is the first time I used it. Didn't have Viva towels so I used a large silk scarf...worked great!

Topsy Turvy cake. Bottom 8"-3 layers. Top 5"-1layer and 6"-2layers. Made this for my 24th Golden Birthday last week. Butterfly's color flow wings and royal icing bodies. Roses BC, Daisies royal icing. White cake with BC filling and covered with MMF. This cake had to come together a lot faster than I wanted it too b/c of my schedule the week before and the day of the party. But once it was all done I was pretty happy with it. I did break my topper the day of the party and was quite dissapointed =(

This cake was done with inspiration by Antonia74 and her lovely Alice in Wonderland themed wedding cake. I used the patterns from her cake. No particular order, color or size though. It was a 11 inch, 9 inch and 7 inch cake. It took about 3 1/2 layers for each size. I had a lot of fun with this cake but when all was said and done I had spent roughly 18 hours on it. Exhausting. At least I can say I've done a whimsy cake though!!

This was my first wedding cake. Very non-traditional. Wanted purple/pink/gold colors and showed me a couple of pics of other cake styles she liked. This is what I came up with. They said they liked it.

First time doing a topsy-turvy...had to travel 2 1/2 hours with it! Groom wanted color scheme of black, white, silver to match reception. Had a few "bumps" along the way that I had to fix....have better ideas what to do next time I need to make one.

This cake was done by me and my cakebuddy, Twin. The top three tiers are dummies, covered in fondant and the bottom tier is a vanilla butter cake with buttercream frosting. Enjoy!

First attempt at a tilted cake. Did this for a local cake contest....learned as I went. My theme was obviously KSU...but took it a step further and put our instate rival's mascot "in jail" on the back side! LOLOL They're Jayhawks....as if anyone cares!!!!!!!!!!! MMF was a mess for me....too dry and not a smooth application at all. Gumpaste flowers with floral ribbon and filler added. Luster Dust and Pearl Dust here and there. FUN but stressful!

I've never done a 3-tier whimsical cake so I thought I'd give it a shot. The camera angle makes the cake look like it's about to plummet, but it was stable. : )

Vanilla cake, oreo cookie filling, chocolate buttercream. Butterfly and polka dots are chocolate transfers. Put this one together quickly as a thank-you to a friend with leftover filling, frosting and transfers from my 2 tier.

Top tier is strawberry, middle chocolate and bottom white cake. I'm not so happy about the overall shape, but it was my first whimsical cake and I only had two days notice (gotta love those last minute orders!)... it was certainly a learning experience. I'm looking forward to doing another one, maybe with a bit more time to plan next time.

This was for a wedding shower tea party that was Mary Engelbreit themed. It is a lemon and strawberry cake with a buttercream frosting and fondant decorations. This is only the third cake I have made and it is the first one I have ever really decorated and used tiers.

I made this for two colleagues at work who are retiring. It is chocolate transfer with buttercream icing. This is my second sun like this and I think I improved on the first one. I used a parchment bag for the outline and I got a much finer line. The inside is a vanilla cake and white chocolate mousse filling. I also added sand and chocolate seashells when I took it to the party. I'll post that pic too. Thanks for looking!!

Buttercream icing with fondnat accents. The spotted effect was acheived by using a toothbrush and dipping it into white icing color then flicking it on the cake. I then did the toothbrush thing with silver luster dust. Buzz is fondant.

This was my first time making a whimsical cake so it was a big learning experience but totally fun to do. It was all chocolate cake with raspberry mousse filling. Iced in buttercream with fondant accents. I did not taper or angle the top layer enought but I think it turned out ok and the graduate love it.

Only the bottom layer is cake. The rest is a dummy cake built from paper mache hat boxes (cheaper than styrofoam). All iced in bc and covered with MMF. The topper is floral wire with beads and MMF decorations. I had so much fun making this cake and got an order for another one upon delivery. Inspired by Lindy Smith and other designs seen on cake central. Still need lots of practice covering cakes with MMF, but it was fun to try.

Thought I'd try a few things from the Whimsical Bakehouse. I used the "house buttercream" recipe. I like the way it taste, but it's tricky to get it smooth. I also like the way the flower turned out....not bad for my first try i guess.

I did this cake for my Aunt's Best Friends's 40th birthday. They gave me creative license and this is what I came up with. It is a 3 layer topsy turvy cake with an extra 16in cake on the side to make the flat part of the island.

Mediums were buttercreme, fondant, royal icing, chocolate candy sticks, and pretzels.

This was a lot of fun creating. Thanks for looking.

Our youth minister was leaving for a new career, so I made a cake to show that things are "up in the air". He created the character--Floyd--that I made in gumpaste for the topper. Floyd was used to illustrate children's services. This cake really wanted to topple over--I think only prayers saved it! The road to the church was under construction and I watched this cake bump up and down for miles!

My first whimsical cake. It was for a coworker and I decided at the last minute that I was going to do a whimsical cake and didn't think about decor. So I added tylose powder to dry the fondant quicker. Some still weren't completely dry and I knew my coworkers wouldn't care i used toothpicks for the spirals. I also decided since it was whimsy I would free hand the diamonds and triangles.
