My first attempt at a sort of Whimsical Cake. I don't think I really got the whimsy in it but oh well! It's a Red Velvet cake for my friends birthday party tonight :)

<center>This cake was inspired by The Whimsical Bakehouse book. Unfortunately the only pictures I was able to take were after the candles were lit and all the kids had tinkered with the frosting (notice the buttercream parts that are falling). This cake was a lot fun to make and I really liked how all the bright colors came together.

This cake was for a 13 year old girl. She had a dance party complete with DJ. They asked for something colorful! Top is yellow cake with strawberry filing, bottom is choc cake with strawberry filling. Iced in buttercream with fondant accents.

This is my first topsy turvy cake. I made this for a friends bridal shower. Covered in marshmallow fondant. It was harder than I thought it was going to be to make this. I slated the cake by using extra filling on one side. The cake slopped a bit, but luckily did not fall over.

Sourcream vanilla cake with buttercream and MMF. My neice turned 10 yrs old and she wanted a 'teired-festive-colorful' cake and so I also did 'swirly colors' inside cake batter with food colorings ..She had a pinanta this year so I had the idea of 'explosive candies' on top. I had never done a whimsical before but always wanted to. I can honestly say this was the hardest one I've ever done. I either need to make others for the practice or never make one again for the serenity :) decision pending.

3 tiered topsy turvy cake covered in fondant made for a cousings baby shower. The flying butterflies are made of paper because I was still new in cake decorating and didn't realize fondant butterflies were too heavy for the wire I picked out. Live and learn!

I made this for my husband's birthday. The colors matched the napkins. Bottom cake was chocolate with raspberry bavarian cream. Top layer chocolate/white cake with nutella filling(big hit). Covered in fondant, fondant accents and fondant ruffles. First time making ruffles, not as easy as I thought.

I have been looking forward to this cake for awhile and was very happy with how it turned out. It was for a co-worker's daughter's sweet sixteen party. They absolutely loved it. It was a 14" square(WASC with raspberry buttercream filling), 11" round(WASC) and 6" square(chocolate with caramel buttercream filling). Duff's buttercream frosting and decorations are mmf except for the 16 which was made out of pastiage(sp?). I need to thank Surferchic, I got my inspiration from a similar cake she posted. TFL.

This cake is my first and only attempt at a whimsical cake for my cousin's 28th birthday, entitled The Kwimberly. Three tiers,8 layers yellow with buttercream, mmf and gp accents. Please feel free to comment as I am just starting and would love feedback. Please help also if anyone has an idea of what this cake's worth might be as in a price range. Thanks so much.

First shot at TT. for my SIL 60th unbirthday. Right out of whimsical bakehouse. The candles were a real hit. People snacked on them while the cake was being cut. Real challenge was the middle layer - angel food!

She loved it anyway. Thanks to the tutorial on this site!!!!!!!!!!!!! Top is Lemon, middle is white with straw. filling, bottom is marble.

Thank you so much Jules and Cindi for all your help! And to Tuggy for the inspiration for the frog's crown and heart. I went through so much cake with trial and error trying to get the right propotions for the body and head (finding the right bowls to bake in). I used the Wilton ball pan for the head and a large Pyrex salad bowl for the body. The frog design is from Debbie Brown's Enchanted Cakes for Children.

I had the absolute WORST time w/ this cake!!! It was inspired by one of boween's graduation cakes. The graduate chose the colors. Long story, but the top tier (chocolate) ended up getting 10 million cake crumbs in the crumb coating, which wouldn't dry so I could frost over it. First time using fondant strips on the cake & had no idea what I was doing. This was my 4th cake since yesterday & I was so tired by the end I was winging everything. Luckily, the grad loved it & said it looked like a "Dr. Suess" cake

I got this idea from another persons pic online. I molded the elephants out of fondant, rather than making them out of icing as they did. Was the first time I had made a whimsical / topsy turvy / crash cake. Turned out pretty good, am already plotting my next crooked venture.

The cakes are covered in rolled fondant and then a second layer of fondant to look like frosting. "Sugar sprinkels" and cherry is made out of modelling paste. Cherry is glazed with confectioners varnish to get it glossy.

luck number 7! - this one was a learning experience...they should call these, wibbly-wobbly cakes instead of topsy-turvey! it was very secure in the end, but sculpting the cakes was interesting! covered in Rhonda's Ultimate MMF and Sugarshack's buttercream (H-R). the zebra stripes are painted on with royal icing, the "50" topper is in piped RI, bow, roses and pink balls are MMF
