Every month we have a birthday potluck at work for everyone who has a birthday that month. August didn't have any birthdays or holidays, but everyone wanted to have a potluck anyway. I'm in charge of doing the cakes and it made me think of an UnBirthday cake. Topsy turvy came to mind. It was my first attempt and not the best, but everyone loved the uniqueness of it. I know the things I did wrong and will learn from it :-) Thanks for looking!

This is a cake for my dh...he is a pipe maker. His request was colorful, with a monkey smoking a pipe. The monkey has a pipe in it's mouth, but I don't know if you can see it very well from this angle. This is an original design of my own. Comments welcome.

First time doing a whimsical, fondant covered stacked cake. It's all marshmallow fondant except for the characters which I purchased.

My first attempt to cake decorating ! Greatful thanks to this website which makes me dream ! I'm French, and these cakes are totally unusual for great occasions. The groom is an artist and the bride wanted some vegetable to refer to the wedding place. We thought of doing something joyful, I guess it seems to be ! Lucie, the name of the bride, means Light, and I wrote her name with all the colors on top tier, suggesting that the union of the artist colored life added to Light bring to a rainbow !

My first attempt at a topsy turvey/whimsical cake, made just for practice. The design is a variation on a Wilton one. It's okay, but I'm not thrilled with it. It looks smooshed to me. I think I needed more height in the tiers.

Well, the top tier of this cake fell apart. Completely split down the center. Granted, I didn't dowel it (mostly because I knew it totally sucked anyway lol)....but yeah. I had an order for a cake like this (different colors and another tier) so this was a practice...but didn't feel comfortable keeping the order as is. So we changed it to regular rounds. I just tossed the Care Bear on top for added decoration cause I think it's cute. :D

Made today for my hubby's birthday. 6" and 4" white cake w/ banana cream filling and BC. Inspired by Whimsical Bakehouse. Frosting isn't as smooth as I would have liked but this truly was a last minute job as I'm leaving for Cake Camp and have a ton of things to do. Hope he likes it :) Thanks for looking.

I am resubmitting because Pursurette was so sweet to edit out the background for me! Thank you! I made this cake for my DD's 2nd birthday. She was born during a typhoon and on her first birthday another typhoon struck and dad wasn't able to be here. So this 2nd birthday, I wanted it to be special. I used royal icing for the letters and buttcream icing all around. It's 2, 6 x 2 inch on top, and 1, 10 x 3 on the bottom. Thanks for looking!

This is the second cake I made and decorated. It's just a pound cake covered with fondant and fondant accents. I curled a thin floral wire around a wooden spoon and stuck a fondant ball on the end. Pretty pleased with my second try.

I forgot to take a pic of my first cake.

So this was originally going to be a mad hatter style cake...until my practice run split in two...thankfully, the bride was willing to go flat round with just the funky design...marble cake w/choc BC then covered in MMF. Wrapped lollipop sticks with curling ribbon (was the only ribbon I could find in the right colors since I procrastinated lol) and double stick tape, then stuck the MMF stars right on top. Decorated the table with extra MMF stars. From what I've heard, the bride & groom loved it! :)

8", 6" with real cupcake, covered in fondant. Gumpaste candle. They wouldn't cut the top tier and cupcake. Saved it for over a month and finally had to throw it out.

Made this for my daughter's 9th birthday. All BC with MMF bow. She came up with this desin, not what I wanted to do, but it's her Bday. When I was taking the pic, I stuck my whole hand in the side of the cake trying to move it. Guess I better go fix it!

A chocolate chip cake with chocolate buttercream filling was the foundation for this whimsical design. For a woman's 70th birthday, her daughter requested something whimsical and youthful.

This is a small 6-8" double layer white cake with buttercream frosting. I hadn't done roses in a while and took me quite a few tries to get these....needless to say I plan on practicing a lot more! This was a birthday cake I did for my mom. :)

Yellow cake with dulce de leche filling. My daughter designed this cake, she picked the colors and design. This is my very first time making a whimsical cake and I must say that it was the easiest cake I ever made, I was very scared of making this cake, but the technique was easier than I anticipated and I'm happy with the results.

This is a 3-tiered cake w/ a 6" round vanilla cake, 6" round dark chocolate fudge cake, and 6" round strawberry supreme cake, iced in all buttercream. It wasn't supposed to be topsy-turvy, but it ended up that way with the weight of it all on such a narrow cake. This was ordered by a co-worker for her birthday and was a big hit!

This is my many first attempts cake. First time w/ MMF, first time w/ topsy-turvy cake, first w/ 2 tier cake, first w/ marbling fondant. The bottom tier is rice crispy, it would have been too much cake if I had did them both cake. The top tier is half yellow butter and half butter pecan w/ cream cheese filling and crumb icing. All accents are MMF as well as cake covering on both tiers. I am not very happy w/ the cake. I couldn't get the draping yellow MMF edge to be smooth. Appreciate any tips and advice.
