Mom-to-be's event planner asked for help with a baby shower cake that would have a nautical theme. The phrase, "Ahoy, It's A Boy!" was in the decorations and needed to be incorporated in the cake design. The cake itself is blue buttercream with white buttercream borders and lettering. To get straight/solid shapes, the lifesavers and the backing to the sailboat topper were cut from gum paste and dried hard. Colored fondant was then cut and adhered to them for decoration. The rest of the cake decoration is also colored fondant. The banner was a mix of gum paste and fondant that was dried, so it would hold shape standing up.

This was a special request from my little neice for her 3rd B-day. She loves all things under the sea and also wanted Nemo and Dory on her cake. I was quite happy with the way it turned out, and she loved it so much she didn't even eat the cake, she just wanted to play with all the fondant characters! Thanks to all cc'rs for your inspiration! And TFL!

This one came out better than I expected. The bride had a very outrageous inspiration cake....and then she wanted blue, purple, orange and yellow starfish all over....as well as a green ribbon if I thought it needed ribbon. (and seashells) :) I thought it would be too much to have starfish of each color, so I blended blue to purple, and yellow to orange. I also vetoed the green ribbon. I was expected it to look much more wild but I'm happy with the result. The bride was thrilled.

Beach themed cupcakes made for a 30th birthday at the beach. Sand is nilla wafers and graham crackers. Water is BC. Decorations are MMF. I packed them for the customer to travel (as shows in some of the close up pics), hope they make it! Several of the decorations are held on with toothpicks. I found lots of inspiration from CC, thanks to all who have posted beach cupcakes before!

So, 10 days before we are moving out of state, my baby has to turn 3, right??? LOL Most of my cake stuff is packed, but I still have the internet, so I got designs from free printable coloring pages and made this cake with chocolate transfers. I wanted to leave the icing a little variegated and unsmooth, so it would look more like water. I was a little disappointed, as to me it just turned out looking sloppy........but the party guests didn't notice and of course the birthday boy was thrilled. This is my last cake for a while, I think, 'cause I start medical school in 1 month and 5 days!!!

This is my first time I've tried making figures out of fondant/gum paste mix. I made the figures too big for the the cake. I also had issues with the octopus...the purple faded a lot! The "sea weed" is made out of gum paste and the sand is brown sugar.
