I just threw this together for my daughter's daycare class. I had lots of leftover buttercream and was already doing some baking for an upcoming cake, so I just baked an extra 9X13 and did a simple design to celebrate spring.

This cake was pulling double duty! I was a bit confused when I took the order, but this is what they wanted! It is a 9x13" sheet divided down the middle with 2 seperate decorations. On the first 1/2 they wanted Happy Birthday Mom w/ shamrocks (birthday was 3/17). On the other 1/2 they wanted "spring flowers" with Happy Mother's Day (this was the confusing part...as Mother's Day is not until May!

BC frosting, licorice string braided straps, and fruit tootsie roll flowers. I have never used fondant yet and for something so small I didn't want to make a huge batch of mmf so I figured tootsie rolls would work great and they did! I warmed them in the microwave just enough to soften them. Then I rolled them flat and used the flower cutter from the Wilton class 3 kit. I will try something else for the straps next time because I had a lot of trouble with them and they ruined my flat surface on the tops!

This is my Course 1 Final, from the book. I missed the last class, so I made the cake on my own. It was a lot harder than using my practice board! I had to trim the cake, so it's not quite round, and I need to learn how NOT to hit the cake with my knuckles when putting decorations on. I'm mostly pleased, since it's my first time working in BC...definitely room for improvement.

It took a couple of weeks to make all of these flowers, since they had to dry in between steps. This was my first basket cake and first time to make all of these flowers! They are all made of royal icing. Most are on bases with wires. After the bases were dried and the flowers were dried, I then attached them together with more royal icing. After that was dry I handpainted them with Wilton paste colors (some are still tacky, so maybe this wasn't the best method). Basketweave is lemon buttercream.

This was made with butter cream and gumpaste. I have had to teach myself how to work with gum paste, so I use polymer clay to practice with and then i do it in the actual gumpaste. Any questions please ask.

Need some practice with the scrolls! My bird looks like a platypus but it was kinda fun to do and overall, usually being very critical of myself, I am pleased with it. The bird/nest was too high and I couldn't close the cake box top! The eggs are Cadbury Mini-Eggs.

1/2 sheet cake, all buttercream. Rosettes and drop flowers on a vine on top of a lattice design.
I completely messed up the writing, so I scraped off the icing and re-iced. That is not easy to do. I can tell, but I don't think the customer did.

I had a lot of fun making the flowers, and placing them. I definitely want to make more cakes like this again.

Got part of the idea from the Wilton Fondant decorating book and made the cake springy looking for person's birthday. It's covered in teal fondant and the picket fence is white fondant cut out and sat out to dry. I glued them on with icing. The flowers are royal icing made in advance.

This cake was requested for a class party. It was their teacher's birthday. She has 2 classes that she teaches throughout the day. This is one of 2 identical cakes, so both classes got to help her celebrate!

My favorite was the top layer with the fence and flowers. I had a lot of problems getting the base icing smooth, and I wasn't very happy with the color of the pink border but it was very late. Luckily my co-workers like whatever I bring in!

This was a cake that I made for Easter. I used the football pan and cut off the sharp points. It is MMF, the first time I made my own fondant!

Two layers of vanilla, two layers of yellow cake, filled with strawberry buttercream, crumb coated with plain buttercream and finished with MMF. All decorations are MMF except for piping, of course. I'll post a detail too.
