This was for my mother-in-law's birthday. She's a fanatic when it comes to slots! She loved this cake so much she didn't even want to cut it...she was going to stick the whole thing in the freezer! The only thing that made her change her mind was the fact that it was a coconut cake..her favorite!

A cake I made for my boss' bridal shower at work. She's getting married in Vegas, and a friend at work and I teamed up to make her cake. I made the Casino Blackjack table, Vegas sign, dancing shadow figures, dice and poker chips. My friend/co-worker made the slot machine, and decorated the board. My cake was yellow cake w/ BC frosting, the slot machine was chocolate cake w/ white frosting, everything is edible except the support poles in the sign. Got the idea from another CC'er. TFL!

I wanted to make something special for my brother's surprise birthday party. This was my first attempt of making anything other than a box cake mix and I had no idea of what I was doing (or getting myself into). Cake is lemon WASC with Michele Foster's updated fondant . Made a ton of mistakes (as you can see) but learned so much. It's miles from looking anywhere near professional but It was a big hit at the party and most of all, my brother loved it. A big thanks to all the CC'ers who sent me messages of help and encouragement.

I love how this cake turned out! The bottom is 3 9x12 cakes, the top 4 9x9 cakes carved down. I peiced each side of fondant on and "glued" the seams with royal icing: this gave it a more crisp, square look. The whole thing is sprayed with silver shimmer. The coins are all made from fondant and hand painted with gold shimmer. The handle is plastic rod covered in fondant. I also covered the board with fondant, gave it the texture and brushed the coloring on with watered down dye. TFL!!

My DH is a real anorak when it comes to Scalextric so I thought I'd make him a Scalextric birthday cake this year. The cake recipe wouldn't behave so the bottom tier ended up made from polystyrene but I was pleased with the final look of it and it was worth the hard work to see his cheesy grin when we brought it out.
