Thanksgiving Turkey
No tryptophan here folks! This is an orange cake with raspberry/blackberry filling, covered in an almond buttercream and decorated with fondant. The wings are fondant and the drumsticks are rice crispy treats covered in fondant. The turkey was "baked" with an airbrush. The stuffing was made from cubes of the orange cake and a mocha cake and contains cranberries and pineapple tidbits

I'm not a Star Wars fan, so I had to Google Captain Rex to see what this cake was supposed to look like! Milk chocolate cake w/chocolate BC. Two 8" rounds on bottom, three 6" rounds in middle & 1/2 Wilton sports ball. This cake was incredibly difficult to cover...I guess because it's so tall and not wide? I dunno, but I was ready to pull my hair out! All in all, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. And the birthday boy LOVED it! TFL!

5 year old wanted a shark cake...my frist experience with that! Two sheet cakes and alot of scraps later, I got pretty close! I hand molded and painted a few little fish and seaweed out of fondant for a little color. He gets it tomorrow.....we'll see what he thinks. My 4 year old grandson said "that sure is one lucky little boy"! LOL

my first attempt at doing a sculpted cake. Learned so much in the process and really want to try another soon. I was planning on doing orange hot rod flames on a white car along with pin striping, but ran out of time and had to paint the fondant with luster dust. The camera really picked up on the imperfection of the finish, but in person it was more sparkly and not so streaky. and of course a decent board for it to sit on is missing as well. Next time ;)

Taught by Dena Bryngelson. What a Blast! Lots of hard work, but so very worth it for the knowledge gained. Thank you Dena, and thanks to the hard working ladies that attended! Loved it! :)

Wasn't sure if this went under animal or food! lol I make alligator cakes all the time but they usually look much cuter than this guy. This was for a groom's cake and they asked that the gator look a little more realistic...okay...a little. Crawfish pot, potatoes, corn and the emblem on the cake is the company emblem...so that is copyright protected. I had permission to use that for the cake...just thought I would mention in case someone wanted to borrow the design. The pot was 10" round cakes...ring at the top is modeling chocolate....grass and cattails in the background are gumpaste/fondant mix. Cake is airbrushed

Stewie's body was sculpted out of RKT covered in modeling chocolate. His head was a WASC cake crumbcoated in Italian Meringue Buttercream and also finished in modeling chocolate. The stool Stewie was standing on was a 12" cheesecake frosted w/ ganache and covered in modeling chocolate. This was the only photo we were able to capture (as Stewie's head bobbled forward) because the cake only lasted long enough for my sister to blow out the stick of dynamite...quickly. I learned a good lesson here: Never, ever, ever (no matter how good it may taste or how bad you crave it) use Italian Meringue Buttercream to secure a bobbing cake head to its base. Especially when the cake design includes a giant stick of dynamite posing as a candle!!!! Why, you ask? Well, because the gianormous candle caused the IMB to melt from the heat and off went Stewie's head, smashing right onto the table. Oh well, we all had a blast digging into the huge pile of cake after the catastrophe anyway, and that was definitely one to remember! Plus, I can now say that I completed a fully functioning bobblehead cake : )

I made this for my son's birthday. He's really into music right now. He loves the Jonas Brothers, but is a litle embarrassed about it for some reason! We got him guitar lessons for his birthday. We'll see how long that lasts! I used the airbrush for the 2nd time. Still need lots of practice as evident by all of the overspray on the cake, floor, wall, cake board etc.

Made Feb 10, 2010 for my daughter to take to her Valentines day preschool class party. It is all cake... The bottom is an 8 inch 2 layer cake and the top is a a few 6 inch rounds cut to look like a hive. The wording "bee mine"in the heart and the little dotted design were hand piped with melted white chocolate, and everything else is fondant. I didnt have heart shaped cutters so I had to use flower cutters and cut the excess off . The cake was vanilla with lemon buttercreme and white chocolate flavored fondant.
It was surprisingly pretty pretty easy and only took about 4 hrs to decorate = )

My favourtire type of cake to decorate! All carved out of floral foam. Single 7/8 inch wooden dowel in the center, secured into wooden base. Measures about 18" high.

The relish was made of green fondant, painted on one side, cut up into squares, then some piping gel on top for shine. The beef was made by cutting thin circles of fondant, folding and stacking them, painting the edges a darker brown, then adding shine with gelatin. Real cinnamon sugar on the donuts. :)

After 5 years of being together, this was the first time I made my boyfriend a cake! For his 30th birthday - a good reason. Brought it to a restaurant for the party, and some of the waitstaff were wondering when on earth did they start serving raw fish on the menu! Scales were made using a new (never ever used ;) ) bath scrubbie that I had cut a piece off of and wrapped around my fondant smoother. I tried Michele's Foster's Fondant recipe - tasted great and was easy to work with.

A little girl asked if I could make a cake to look like her Littlest Pet Shop puppy. This is what I came up with. Head is 6" cakes stacked. Body is a 4" cakes stacked and carved. Back legs are cupcakes on a skewer and front are fondant. My husband made me the stand with a rod that's bolted into the base.

Entered this in the Austin That Takes the Cake Show 2010 in professional sculpted division. All cake covered in fondant with accessories in a 50/50 gumpaste mix and royal icing. This is probably my favorite piece that I have done so far. I was asked to make him again in styrofoam for the Volunteer Texas Firefighter Association so that they can take it to all of the conventions this year- I am so honored! :) TFL
