This cake included a lot of firsts for me...pillow cakes & fondant box lid. The bride-to-be will have a new last name of Queen and the groom's first name is Heath, so they wanted to play off this for this lingerie bridal shower. However, I realized too late I didn't take out the napkins in the bows on the lid box for my pictures!

My friend is a princess so I thought I'd try the pillow/crown cake for her birthday this week. The cake started as a 10" square that I shaped (not very evenly!!) It is the WASC cake, but I used Raspberry instead of almond and I used a raspberry buttercream in under the fondant. It was really a refreshing flavour. The crown I found a bit tricky, definitely learned things for the next time I try a crown!!

I did this cake using the tutorial by missyek. It was a great tutorial!!! It is a chocolate amaretto cake with a mixture of nutella and amaretto buttercream filling and is frosted with lavender amaretto buttercream and MMF. The tiara is gumpaste.

This was my first time carving, using MMF on a cake, and the crown. Didn't all go so easily. My cake had three back sides (MMF tore a lot). Since my frinds only knew that I was bringing a cake they were thrilled. Got a lovely thank you note from the 7 year old that it was from with a drawing of the cake included. Boy do cakes give people joy!

Pillow and gumpaste shoe. Definately need to work on the edges, sides, corners of the pillow, but I still think it looks pretty good.

This was my final cake for the Wilton Fondant & Gumpaste course that I completed in February. One of my co-workers encouraged me to enter the Taste of Home magazine contest with this cake. So, I did...and I e-mailed them twice...and I never got a response. After months of waiting and finding out the contest is over through a winning cc member, I decided to post my entry here. I hope you guys like it. It is special to me.....I am a full time mammographer. I displayed it a work for my patients to enjoy.

My partner and I did this cake for my daughter's birthday. She liked I Dream of Jeannie so we made a bottle from rice krispies (had alot of problems with shaping - bigger than I wanted it) and then we made a pillow for the cake (which came out great, very easy to do)

My business partner Suebee and I did this cake for her daughters birthday. Sue also made a great bottle from I Dream of Jeannie for the top. We carved it from a 13x13 square and covered it with moss green fondant. We painted the fondant with Aztec Gold and Avacado green luster dust. This was so much fun. Check under her photos for the bottle!

My first pillow cake.(thanks for the tutorial!!) Covered with MMF, gumpaste and buttercream. The crown was supposed to be just the gumpaste swirls, but they kept falling apart, so I backed it with a gumpaste/fondant backing cut to size. 10" chocolate cake with buttercream frosting.

I have seen so many of these that I had to make one. When my friend said her daughters birthday was coming up I offered to make the cake. This crown is like the 9th one I made. The first batch of RF I made wasnt quite right. I still think it turned out kinda cute.

This pillow I got to do for my 5 year old cousin. I had set it in the middle of the table when I arrived at the party and there were quite a few people again that tried to move the "pillow" off the table so we could eat... The crown was bought as both of the ones I made broke the day of the party (one broke in transit) but the birthday girl has her own crown now!

This was for a 14 year old. She and her mom wanted Disney princesses on it. I tried to
come up with something a little more mature. First pillow cake and first drapes. It was a challenge.
The corners would not stand up and I could not get the fondant smooth but they liked it.

White cake with buttercream under fondant. This was a challenging cake for me, but I think it turned out okay. The fondant kept wanting to slide off even after I used vodka to make it 'stick' to the pillow. The white candy melt tiara was fun to make. I made 2 in case of breakage, and wouldn't you know it, both of them broke! Little girl still loved the cake and it was well worth the effort when I saw her face light up.

This is a pillow cake I did for a baby's first birthday. The whole thing is brushed with pearl & luster dusts. Some colors I mixed together, some not. The colors were pale pinks, golds, & creams though the colors don't show up exactly true in the pictures.

I made the tassel by pressing fondant through my garlic press then topping with small beads & a fondant rose. The garlic press worked fabulously!

I made this cake for my grandmas birthday. I had a disaster time with it!! First, my cake collapsed, so I decided to just use a mix... I freeze it and when I carve it, it gets all mushy, and then I crumb coat it, and I seriously did CRUMB COAT it!! There was crumbs all over the buttercream...she'll forgive me, though!! LOL... Fondant was WAY dry..ARRGH!! In the end, I think it turned out kinda pretty... Tiara is Royal Icing
