Marine themed birthday cake made for a 50th Birthday, which is a big thing in Holland and a special birthday to be celebrated. At the same time him and his wife celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary, hence the 25 and both their initials on the back of the cake. The 50 year old (Abraham as we say in Holland) used to work in the fishery and lately works as a shipping navigation pilot, hence the marine theme.

I am a complete amateur but I am proud of this white cake with almond buttercream frosting, fondant accent pieces include rope around bottom, cover, emblem, dog tags, and flag which is rice krispie treats. Cover represents active duty, reservists and cadets, trifold flag represents veterans, especially those who gave all, blank dog tags represent the future Marines and the roses represent "those who wait also serve"...the families. Semper Fi

Made a couple of cake for individual Marines. Thanks to sweetcakes for inspiration. Emblems done in fondant. I didn't have any alcohol to paint the emblems with luster dust, so all I had was some edible glaze. I will be better prepared next year!

This was a cake I did for a Marine who was getting married. The decorations are gumpaste, and I used RKT for the structure of the hat. Everything was done by hand, no molds.
