My hubby's birthday cake that I made him for his 22nd birthday. EGA is a chocolate transfer (took forever to get the technique right!), frosted in buttercream, chocolate mocha cake w/ganache filling. Attempt at a rope border, which is painted with gold luster dust. Turned out alright, but not my favorite.

My husband is a former Marine and celebrates the USMC birthday every year. This is the cake I did for him and mailed to in Saudi Arabia where he is currently deployed. It's just a one layer cake with bc and MMF. The EGA is gumpaste used in a mold and the letters are tappits. I hope it makes it to him in one piece.

This cake was actually very easy to make. It is layers of fondant cut out and airbrushed. The marine corps is a chocolate mold. All airbrushed gold paint.

Okay, not a fathers day cake, but masculine & it was for my FIL, so I chose to put it here. The Marine & Cowboy cakes were chocolate & the Football cake was white. All BC icing w/ Fondant cutouts. I Airbrushed the blue green & red to reduce the "colored mouth" effect. I stacked the cakes when I got to the party location, but I do not have copies of those pics yet.

sniff, sniff, sniff! :( This was supposed to be my master piece & instead it became the most horrible disater I have ever created! wahhhhh! :( I made all 3 cakes at home, then transported them unstacked 7miles to the party location. When I go there I found that the bottom cake had completely lost it's BC on the back & as you can see, the front & sides weren't doing much better. I was able to keeo the icing on the cake & covered the worst spot in front with the large football & the 2 helmets, but everything was just fighting me. (sigh) Everyone sitll thought it was a gerat cake (ha!) & I just smiled and thanked them. Well, at least I got the pleasure of cutting it up! mwa-hahaha! Also, I just realized that my other cake disater post was alos for my FIL b-day (last year). I'm just not gonna make him b-day cakes anymore! It's not me, it's him! (yeah, yeah, that's it!)

Fondant covered cake. All "gold" items are molded from an actual Marine dress uniform, then made of white chocolate and dusted with Super Gold dust. The medals are from the actual soldier's uniform but are loose interpretations - fondant painted with powdered color and gold dust.

I made this cake for a new Marine (God Bless them all). I covered the cake board with fondant and airbrushed it. The Globe is the cake the rest of it was made of fondant. The chain on the dog tags was made one ball at a time, then strung on fishing wire (that is why the chain is so short it took more time than I thought).

Made this red, white & blue WASC with strawberry filling for a friend that lost her son in Iraq. Covered in buttercream with fondant buttons, belt, patch. Covered foamcore with fondant for top of 6" WASC hat and brim. This was a labor of love and deep appreciation for this young man's ultimate sacrifice for his country. Marcus was unable to buy his "Dress Blues" because he was deployed to Iraq & was going to buy his dress blues once he returned. His mom wanted his LCP patch on this "dress blues" cake.

All BC except the gold bits in the logo. I actually made this cake twice. The first one was awful. I used a chocolate mold only it was oversized for the cake. I was so disappointed. In an effort to cut a corner and use a mold I ended up taking more time and doing it twice and had to do it by hand anyway! TFL!

I made this cake for a friend who's Dad and Brother served and her son is in the Junior Marines program. First attempt with fondant on a whole cake so I was pretty pleased overall. Fondant covers mistakes well LOL. It is a 2 layer 9 inch Hershey's collector cake recipe I found here (Thank you great recipe) filled and iced with Chocolate hazelnut buttercream. Covered in MMF. Insignia is candy molds (after a bad attempt at tempering white chocolate) painted with gold luster dust. Doesn't show up well but the stars on the side have pixie dust glitter on them. Thanks for looking!

WASC with Fondant and Edible Marine image. This cake was HUGE...the biggest I've ever made. I used Satin Ice Fondant and I'm thinking it's a lot different to work with that Wilton...but tastes way better. Had a hard time with it tearing. The semper fi sign pilot wings are edible...also made from fondant.
