I was in charge of making my nephews 7th birthday cake, which I of course love to do!! However, he wanted Sponge Bob, I really didn't want to make a Sponge Bob cake, so I convinced him to let me make this one. I had just seen the Ace of Cakes episode when Duff makes a gumball machine and I was itching to try it. I was really happy with the way it turned out. All the kids....and adults at the party thought it really was a gumball machine. So I would say it was a success!!!! Most important though was that my nephew absolutely loved it, and was glad I didn't let him have a Sponge Bob cake!!!! He and his cake were a hit with his friends from school!!! :-)

This cake was made for my parents 30th anniversary. I couldn't come up with a way to combine my father's hobby of fishing with my mother's love of knitting, but as they are often to be found in front of slot machines, I thought this would be perfect. Both my parents and the guests loved it.
The cake is split and layered first with Toblerone mousse (yummy!) and then raspberry mousse. It is covered in fondant and the writing is royal icing.

This cake was done for my daughter's 7th birthday party. The idea was taken from several on CC, but most specifically CC user FROMSCRATCH. Thanks for the tutorial. I altered my design slightly for times sake, but my daughter told me this was the best cake I have ever done!

I made this for a Woman's Cafe at my church. My idea was to make a cake to represent us women and to remind us that sometimes dinner doesn't turn out the way we would have hoped and maybe we won't get to the laundry, but after a day of taking care of the kids, the husband, and the house we should make an effort to take care of ourselves.
Everything is edible. Thanks CC for your inspiration!

I stacked and cut 3 sheet cakes in half and sculpted the cake. Covered it in mmf and used the edible food pens to draw the designs. I used a plastic dowel for the handle. This cake was pretty fun.

I made a template and hand cut these cookies, using a photo of an actual gumball machine as my model. (The template was approximately 2 1/4" wide x 5" high.) The gumballs are mini-M&M's. I was going to do all the gumballs in icing, then decided I would go insane long before all the cookies were finished! Simple sugar cookie with glace icing. Outlined with thickened icing, using a #1s tip. I used a #4 for the white area, #2's for most others. Edited to add: I will post the template for these cookies ASAP.

This is the template for my gumball machine cookies. The template size I used was approximately 2 1/4"x5", and I traced it onto clear plastic then cut it out with an exacto. The plastic I used was some I recycled from the front inserts of holiday booze sets that my husband likes to buy at Christmas.

This cake is what happens when I ask my kids what should be put on Daddy's birthday cake. My son chose the gun and my daughter wanted the Steelers. Somehow I think it worked in the end. The gun and towel are fondant/gum paste. The cake is covered in fondant "marble."
