This 3D Maui cake was constructed using a 1/2 sheet cake carved and stacked iced with buttercream and covered with rolled fondant. I used gel colors mixed with almond extract to paint the colors onto the cake. I don't have an airbrush machine yet, so I use what I have! I crushed graham crackers for the beach, and buttercream icing for the ocean. The interenet research I performed on this cake has made me want to vacation there someday!

I was so upset about this cake but did not have the time for a do-over. :( My butter cream transfer was horrible, I forgot to outline in black, it looks terrible... I'm posting it anyways, because I'm not perfect! September, 2009

I tried this cake from a cake picture I saw. All is edible except the sandals and candles.
Palms are pretzels, coconuts are whoppers, sand is brown sugar, water is fondant. I wanted to marblelize the fondant but I kneaded it too much.
Sorry for the background- it was just a picture for me to have. Hadn't thought to share online before. I had fun doing this though.

This is the cake I made for my 3 year old son for his birthday party. He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Thomas the Train!! So, I decided to recreate Sodor Island in the fall seeing his birthday is in October. Both chocolate and strawberry flavored cakes, per my baby's request! Everything is edible with the exception of the train track, train, fence, and sticks to hold up the sign and candles. Thanks for looking!

This was for my son's 4th birthday (an early cake attempt!) He was very into pirates, so my husband helped me with the shape of the pirate ship. No fondant, just buttercream & candy sharks/accents.

This cake was for a lucky little 6 year old. Everything is fondant except for the peacock fan and crown. I loved doing this cake! Doll is wrapped in plastic wrap. Cake was a 10" and a Wonder Mold pan, torted, filled, and carved. Barbie would have been too tall for just the Wonder Mold pan. TFL!

Chocolate and vailla cakes cover in MMF. The figures are all fondant, the palm tree is made out of modeling chocolate. The crocadile was inspired by one if the talented people here on CC, (sorry can't remember who it was. But Thank you for sharing).

I made this cake for our end of summer "Island Party". I used crushed Nilla Wafers for sand, blue sparkle gel for the ocean, white chocolate/chocolate shells, and fruit roll up for the beach towels. Trees and hula girl are plastic. I also made a small cake for a guests' birthday with similar theme and flowers. Thanks for looking.

This was for my daughters 7th birthday. Her birthday is in November and she really wanted to have a beach party. So we made it happen. Her cake was a yellow cake, with a chocolate volcano. The water even contained a shark!

My mother had wanted to be somewhere tropical for her 50th birthday - so I brought the beach to her! She <3 it! Devil's foodcake with vanilla icing and my mom's favorite, blue gummy sharks! Fondant and pretzels for the trees. Umm.... white fondant really needs a lot of red food coloring. I learned that. I didn't have the patience to get to red.

I did this personal cake for my great grand nephew's B-day, small island cake surrounded by water, sand, flowers and trees. I made a large tree on top out of a cookie covered in royal icing and a pretzel for the tree trunk, I attached the trunk of the tree with melted chocolate and a Diego candle.
