Sculpted zombie head cake for boy's 11th birthday. Mom requested that it be "realistic but not too gory and not a lot of blood." Three Chocolate 8 inch round layers and one White 8 inch half ball layer covered with Vanilla icing. Total height 7 1/2 inches tall. Fondant eyes and teeth. Eyes painted with gel colors. I call him Romero after George Romero, the director of the original "Night of the Living Dead."

A customer showed us a picture and requested this cake. I really don't like to recreate other people's custom cakes because it takes away our own artistic freedom and then there's always the comparison to see if it's the same or better or worse. Well in this cake, I think our's is nowhere near as good as the one they showed us. But the customer was completely happy and her guests were all amazed and taking pictures of it and grabbing our business cards, so I'm happy. The original monkey head I made from Rice Krispies, but when we were ready to put it on top of the cake we realized that we should have made a better support system, because the head was just too heavy, so I shaped this one quickly out of styrofoam, buttercreamed it and remade and applied the fondant in about an hour. No too shabby huh? The bananas are made from fondant and everybody loved them. But I didn't know they were going to be eating them. People were actually picking them off at the cake cutting and eating them and they like them. But, next time I will use Tootsie Rolls (someone told me they have banana Tootsie Rolls, which would be perfect) and then cover them in fondant. The circles, trees and lettering are all fondant.

Stacked chocolate pound cake with ganache between layers and carved deer head. Antlers are 50/50 gumpaste/fondant over wire. Fondant ears. Iced in buttercream and airbrushed. Antlers were difficult to keep in position being they were so heavy.

Be sure to favorite this cake if you like it! Please ;D All edible cake. The head is a rice krispy treat covered with fondant and gumpaste hair. Inspired by Michael Hussar's 'White Rooster' painting. And for the record--this cake is not supposed to be 'pretty'. Anyone can make pretty cakes--but, I like to think outside the box.

Kinda' hard to figure this guy out~but wasn't too terribly difficult once we got going... it's a 1/2 sheet, an 8" and a 6" round.... chocolate cake on the bottom and the face was white almond sour cream... covered in marshmallow fondant that was colored brown... then to make it look more "natural" I painted it with vanilla extract and brown coloring... the antlers were wire, covered in foil, covered in ivory fondant that we painted with more ivory coloring and vanilla extract... hope this helps!!!

All vanilla pound cake, buttercream icing and fondant accents. I used 2 egg shaped pan standing, but had some difficulty with cakes wanting to separate, would probably do it different if did it again. Thanks for all of the ideas on CC.
