Here's a design based on an 1880's French velvet embroidery. I wish the wood base idea would have come out better, but not too bad. Just some concept art between actual cakes :)

this cake is orange creamsicle, filled with green colored french vanilla buttercream and frosted with french vanilla buttercream. the ninja turtle (michelangelo) was supposed to be a frozen buttercream transfer, but it broke, so i had to fill most of it in by hand.

i am a critique subgroup member, so all comments are welcome.

White cake frosted in buttercream. All buttercream decorations except for the "food". The hamburgers are Nilla Wafers for the bun and a Thin Mint for the patty. The French fries are made using Starburst cut with the Pampered Chef crinkle cutter which I had heated in the microwave about 5 seconds to soften them. It's hard to see in the picture, but the little black specks are buttercream ants.

This was a cake that I did for a bridal show. This one went a little backwards than normal....I saw the topper first, then designed the cake around it. The middle tier was copied off of something I saw done in a European cake magazine. There are four phrases in different languages on the cake...... Love, Amour, Amore, & Je taime. And then of course the X's & O's for hugs & kisses!

My DH's friend wanted a birthday cake for his wife who is a French
teacher. So my DH and I adorned the cake with fleur de lis, a Christian
Louboutin shoe, a Louis Vuitton purse and a small Eiffel tower.
The main cake is covered in buttercream, the shoe and Eiffel
tower are gumpaste and the purse is an angel food pound cake
 covered in fondant and gumpaste.

My brief was to make a simple cake for a French language class. It's a madeira cake covered with MMF & sugarpaste accents. The writing & Eiffel Tower picture are printed with edible inks onto an icing sheet.

I have to say that I had the most fun making this cake! My husband is deployed and we are having a deployed family potluck this weekend and I wanted to make something fun and unusual. What says potluck better that a big juicy cheeseburger? I got inspiration from so many from this site. It's made of 3 9in rounds. I carved the the top bun and then airbrushed the buns with just an ivory color. The lettuce, cheese and tomatoes are MMF. The french fries are just cut up pieces of cake.
