This cake is a rendition of HeatherMari's cake. I absolutely love her original design, and mine is nowhere near as impressive. This version is an 8 inch chocolate cake with buttercream flowers. The dragonfly is made of beads. Thank you for looking.

Cake is classic white cake with 1/2 butter, 1/2 crisco buttercream. Flowers out of gumpaste, sign, frogs, blanket, butterflies, dragonflies and large flower on top made of fondant and decorated with pastel chalks. I got the idea for the frogs off of another users frog prince (I don't rememer her name though). So thank you! I was just disappointed on how UN-smooth the buttercream is. My friend told me to stop messing with it, cause she said everything else totally draws away from the flaws. :)

Not exactly cookies.....
I saw these in a girl's cookbook in Michael's, forgot the name of the book. I made them for my daughter's Brownie Troop meeting. The girls loved them. Just pretzels dipped in almond bark mixed with chocolate and white candy melts dipped in pink sugar crystals for the wings.

I had done another wedding cake with the dragonfly cookies with red roses, and I kept envisioning sunflowers and raffia. So I made this display cake using that idea. The sunflowers are silk, but if I were to do this for an actual cake I would much prefer gumpaste. I was short on time to meet a deadline for a wedding show.

I made this cake for a class assignment to design a child's birthday cake. I thought kids, especially boys, would like the idea of a swamp.

This was fun, I used my long loaf pan for the body and carved the sections from that. I went online to find pictures of dragonflies, and blew up pictures of the wings traced them on a sheet cake and cut them out. I used spray color to get the right colors and curly pipecleaners for the antennae. It sure was the buzz of the party.

This was for my oldest son's birthday. He wanted a nature cake with his favorite creatures: snake, lizard, bird and dragonfly! :) I got some of the ideas from browsing some pictures and just created my own, and I wish I could remember names, but I can't! Someone posted an awesome article on making the dragonfly - and it came out so cool.

All figures made of fondant and gumpaste. Gumpaste for dragonfly wings. Use a leaf veining mat to get the pattern on the dragonfly wings (expand picture to see).

I made the class for my second Wilton 1 course class but we didn't ice our cakes in class so I went home and did it at 11pm! I got tired and stopped caring especially since my icing was sooooo soft and didn't cooperate well! Oh well, just for practice! The cake was a lemon cake with buttercream and filled with a fresh strawberry filling. Very moist and yummy!

On one of my mini cake making days, I created this. Covered with simple fondant, and then used icing colors and a paintbrush. I tried using a stencil of a dragonfly too. Not the best, but will try again.

Buttercream icing...royal icing bugs. For my son's first birthday (bug theme!!) See smash cake too..it was supposed to sit on top of this cake but I got nervous that it might implode so I left it separate!

I went crazy with the fondant/gumpaste. The flowers and wings are gumpaste. The bugs are all fondant. The anthill is just frosting covered in crushed graham crackers (from a pie crust). The eyeballs are sprinkles. The bugs were time consuming but very easy.

I did this cake for a friend of my aunt's wedding shower. My aunt wanted anything with dragonflies and I had had the idea of doing something with stained glass on a cake for a long time. it took a long time and I wasn't really sure it would turn out as I had imagined, but I was actually really pleased with the results and everyone at the party loved it. I now have plans and drawings for many more lamp cakes, I think they're going to become my specialty :) I'll post another pic so the whole 'lamp' shows.

This was a small donation cake to go with a certificate for a larger cake at a later date. I wanted the cake to have no boards or supports, so I stacked a single 6" on a single 8" and covered it with one piece of fondant--worked great. The decorations are done to match the cake plate. The dragonfly is hand modeled gumpaste and painted with luster dust. Well received and lots of fun to do.

These cookies accompanied a donated gift certificate for a future cookie order. NFSC recipe with cut fondant and food marker decos. The dragonfly is a little "fat", but thinner cutters yield fragile cookies, so I went with this guy. I really like the butterfly cutter and I have some leftovers to play with for other designs. I really like the fondant for decorating because the cookies and fondant stay wonderfully moist and tasty.

This is my first try at making and decorating 'pretty' cookies - and the order was for 10 dozen!! They were pleased with them - but I still need more practice!! I used the NFSC recipe and the rolled buttercream with royal icing for the detail work. Thanks for looking and I appreciate all suggestions!!
