The grandma wanted me to replicate her granddaughter's CRAYOLA box, but add my own spin to it. So I did the basic shape/design that was in the photo but since the child's name started with a C, I did her name instead of the word Crayola & then just added the Happy Birthday banner and #3 instead of the number of crayons inside. It was fun, but pretty darned time consuming, lol. Well, I like how it turned out anyways =) TFL!

Elmo was made using foam floral balls and fondant. I pulled a toothpick across the fondant to make it look more like hair, and not so flat. Cakes are 8in and 12in, buttercream with fondant details. Happy Birthday Mason!

A made this large cupcake decorated with my 4 year old's favorite things -- a bunny, crayons, beach ball, worms and a baseball (in back). The additional photo has smaller cupcakes with crayons as faux candles. Just basic vanilla cake with buttercream. All figures are fondant with half gum paste. One note: my little guy squished down a little and looks wider than originally created. Oh well.

cake for grandson's 2nd birthday. His favorite story is "Where the wild things are" so the open book was based on that with 8 inch max and wild thing plushes for accent.. Animals, nursery rhymes and harold and the purple crayon "books" complete the look. Cakes are covered w/ buttercream then a layer of colored choco-pan and hand painted. Page seperations in sides were made with fork tines. Some details were cut from chocopan, laid on the cake then painted. Various size square and rectangle pans were use

This was for my son's first day of school, I mean the third day of school. ;) The bottom was Funfetti cake with raspberry filling and the top was chocolate, no filling. Buttercream with MMF decorations. Used edible marker for the design on the crayons and RI for the writing and chalk on the blackboard with sugar smudges. Thanks for looking.

This is one of my first attempts at making 3-D cakes. I have always had an artistic edge to me and lately the medium has been cakes. My girlfriend is a teacher and needed a cake for a teacher's day event for elementary school.

The dual 13X9 cakes are vanilla accented with pure almond extract. The filling in between the cakes are a buttercream mixture with a hint of mint and colored red. The cakes were colored green and purple so that when it was cut into, it would be more colorful. The tops and sides were iced with a buttercream icing by hand. I iced them without exactly straight lines so it added a small whimsical look to it. The crayons were carved from spare cake parts and the tips were made from the ends of twinkies. I modeled my whole design from the box of crayons I bought at the store.

Any critque, comments, compliments or other is appreciated.

Thanks to kiraboo for the fantastic original inspiration and instructions! I saw it and had to try it. I donated this to a local homeless shelter for their monthly birthday party for kids. The kids loved it and insisted on eating specific colors of crayons. The crayon tips are fondant-covered ice cream cones.

This was for my son's 2nd birthday. He loves the book and show, "Harold and the Purple Crayon." I always make a special smaller version for him out of Rice Krispies since he is allergic to eggs.
