I made this treasure chest for my sister's little boy. The top is made from rice crispie treats. I used bamboo skewers to prop the lid open. The cake is one 11 x 15, cut in half and stacked. The wood grain effect was done with a toothpick after the icing crusted. Chocolate coins and candies and plastic necklaces are on top.

Did this for my sons just for fun. My first try at a treasure chest. 1/4 sheet cake cut in thirds, covered in fondant. I didn't have anything good laying around to fill the chest with, so we lustre dusted some raisinets & round fondant pieces. Wood pattern done w/an impression mat.

Cake was done for a little boys "pirate" birthday. Used a 1/2 sheet pan for bottom cake (cut in 1/2 and stacked), top was cut out of a 1/4 sheet pan. Used various sized dowels to support the top. Iced in buttercream, then airbrushed color. I would have added more detail, but already spent more time on this than planned (but it was fun!)

For my own son's pirate birthday. Thank you to all the treasure chests at CC. This place is so awesome! I cut a 9x13 in half and made top with rice krispy treats (they really do sculpt better without butter). Luster dust for metal. I forgot to color the wood fondant ahead of time, but painting on the brown coloring was good because it enhanced the woodgrain lines I had made with a knife.

B-day cake for a 5 year old who is in to pirates. Took some inspiration from pictures here on CC. Used the Pirates of the Caribbean Decopak for the figures and trees. Filled the treasure chest with mini M&Ms. 8" square butter cake with vanilla BC and graham cracker crumb sand.

The cake board is covered in Royal icing and painted using gel paste colours thinned with lemon extract. The cake was made for my childrens school's Pirates Week party.

My neighbor wanted this cake for her 6th birthday. She didn't want a cake top so I used a gold wrapped cake board and tilted it to make it look like the lid.

I drew inspiration from lots of cakes on here, so a big "Thank you!" to everyone. I prepared the board with royal icing to make the water and then sprayed it with aerosol cake color spray. Then I added the island, which is an 8 in round and a half ball carved out. It was iced in BC and covered in nilla wafer crumbs. The ship was carved out of a loaf pan and covered in fondant "wood". The treasure chest was made from a mini-loaf pan and covered in fondant. This one was really fun!

I made this for my husband's birthday. Chocolate cake (3 layers) for the bottom, 1 layer for the lid. Covered in MMF. Crest is FBCT. MMF is painted in brown b/c it looked too plain in white. Filled with Hershey kisses to hide the dowels. First 3D box cake, so I wasn't really sure what I was doing.

My first naughty cake. The customer was throwing a bachelorette party and asked me to make a male torso cake and incoorperate a plastic....err....manhood. IT was a fun project and thanks to all others who have posted male torso cakes for the inspiration! Black tinted coconut for pubic hair, fondant covered torso and fondant trojan, and a plastic penis. What fun!

Stacked rectanguler layers of white cake, covered in blue buttercream (white on top). Fondant handles and frosted rice krispie treat lid. Used real beer cans emptied by poking a whole in the bottom so they looked unopened. Rock candy to look like ice.

Pirates of the Carribean birthday cake. Whipped cream icing with fondant Captain Jack and treasure chest. I think the cake needs a little more, maybe a palm tree or something, but I was too tired after making the pirate and chest to add anything else!

I had a request for a Chip N Dale cake for a 40th birthday. BC icing and MMF for the body. I got a couple of comments about the flat bikini. Oops, I was focusing on chest muscle definition and didn't even think about it. lol

For a 3 year old's pirate theme birthday party, I made this treasure chest cake out of a 12x18 layer cut in half then stacked. Frosted in crusting chocolate buttercream, filled with candy treasure, then topped with the lid made out of several 9" rounds cut in half and put on top of a piece of cardboard.

This was a pirate ship cake for son's 6th birthday. Had problems with the fondant, too crumbly, so added glycerine and more marshmallows and then kneaded in more conf. sugar and it seemed to work out. The silly mistake was to use white icing underneath which is showing through in parts. I reinforced the wood along the top (rails) with spagetti noodles, I'll make sure the kids don't get those pieces when they eat it. The water was gelatine, and some hard candy too.

This was for my sons' 6th & 3rd birthday party. The treasue chest was 12x18 cut into 3rds covered in fondant, impression mat wood grain. RCT lid. Decorations are fondant pearls & chocolate coins. The shipwreck (based on one done by Debbie Brown) was two oval cakes torted filled then carved into shape. Covered in fondant w/fondant & tootsie roll decorations. Map was fondant (based on another CC member's idea), sprayed w/food coloring to get the aged look then hand painted with food coloring gels & pens
