A couple celebrating 50 years together who love their garden. I started this design a few weeks ago and allowed more drying time than I usually do. But the longer it stood, the easier and better it was to add more to it! The only non-edible items are their spectacles which I made using gold wire. There's a butterfly on the roses but it isn't too clear....in fact, not at all! ha ha

This mom always challenges my creativity haha...last year her animal loving son wanted a cheetah...this year a falcon which is his favorite animal. This cake has an inch wide dowel and a small platform to support the fattest part of the falcon.

My three year old decorated this cake when I was doing my course 2 final. I think she did a pretty good job (I did ice it for her).

This is my back up plan for an 3-D Elmo cake I have to make. If I can't get the Elmo to sit up without looking like he's been beat up, then I'll just use these chocolate designs around the cake! LOL. This is only my second time working with chocolate floodwork. It is definitely time consuming to do so much detailed work, but like I said, if the 3-D thing doesn't happen for me, I've got these chocolate babies to fall back on!

A beautiful Upside down cake. The girl at Joanne's was so sweet she said it looked so good that she wanted to get a spoon from the break room. That didn't help.

This was fun...the birthday was at a nature preserve and the theme was birds. I was given free reign and I came up with this. The egg and nest are rice crispy treats. the egg was covered in fondant and the nest in melted chocolate and pretzels. The lettering was my husband's idea - melted chocolate made to look like twigs.

Whoa! I had a lot of flowers to work with! Maybe too many for this cake. First time doing basket weave and making royal icing flowers and color flow birds.

A parrot for my daughter. After making a mess by trying to stencil in guide lines, I freehanded the parrot from a picture and piped each feather. There are random palmetto fronds on the side of the cake.

Hand painted cake of an argus pheasant. I kept the food coloring very runny to get the watercolor look. I highlighted with colored frosting of blue, yellow, and white. I did green frosting for the shrubbery around the pheasant.

These cupcakes were inspired by a posting from bkrmama and I found the Ernie cupcakes on a Sesame Street site. I had these for my son's party and then made more (plus Elmo) for my son's daycare class. The kids all started shouting out the character names! These were REALLY easy and quick to make. About an hour for 26 or so. I had all the colors ready. The eyes are marshmallows with a dot of dark chocolate or black frosting. All the rest is tinted buttercream (except Big Bird's beak). Enjoy!

A Sesame Street bday cake I did for my daughter's 2nd birthday this past weekend. I really had alot of fun making the characters. If only I hadn't run out of time the day of the party to really focus on the cake itself! A fun project nevertheless.

I made these for my son's daycare, for their Christmas Party. He wanted some super hero's too, since I only had so many colors of BC, I made Spiderman, Iron Giant, Hulk and Flowers and Little cute bugs too for the girls. Dec. 2005. Along with the reindeer which are accented with Cut Pretzels for the antlers & M&M for the eyes & noses.

This was for my oldest son's birthday. He wanted a nature cake with his favorite creatures: snake, lizard, bird and dragonfly! :) I got some of the ideas from browsing some pictures and just created my own, and I wish I could remember names, but I can't! Someone posted an awesome article on making the dragonfly - and it came out so cool.

Chocolate cake with Nutella Mousse filling, I thought there was too much white, so i did some spatual stripping for the rope border. Was hoping to match the blue to the color flow birds, but i think i used a bit too much color.

I covered this cake with Satin Ice fondant. All accents and characters including light post are edible. This was my first "biggie", complete with a personalized cake base, which I think made all the difference. I was pretty pleased with the way it came out. I had a little left over batter so I threw in a smash cake for the baby.

These are cupcakes that I threw together for my husband's office. They are supposed to be bird's nests. I tried using a grass-tip at first and didn't like the way that looked. So, then I used a star tip and built up a nest in a spiral formation. I used Peeps for the birds and Jelly Bellies for the eggs. I also used giant malted-milk ball eggs. For the Easter grass it is edible grass that you can buy from Orientaltrading.com and it comes in yellow, green, and pink. It doesn't taste good, but it's cool
