Making Buttercream Roses on a Stick last edited on 8/3/05
Posted by ntertayneme This is a method of creating roses on a dowel or stick as opposed to using a flower nail. Some cake decorators prefer this method. Click To Enlarge View the video & step by step standard Wilton method of creating buttercream roses on a flower nail http://cakecentral.com/articles/83/buttercream-roses 1. Take a short piece of a dowel stick, the kind you'd use for doweling a tiered cake, approximately 6 to 7 inches in length. Tint your buttercream icing and place in your bag using tip 101, 102, 103 or 104. I start off by "anchoring" my rose to the...

Posted by JFcakes Sweet Chestnuts are to be found all over the place at this time of year, so what better excuse than to make use of them. Take your kids out collecting, and then have some fun making something tasty. There are two parts to this recipe. Making the Chestnut paste. If you make enough of it you can use half a freeze the rest for use in many different recipes ... even your stuffing at Christmas time. Then there is the dressing recipe. The resulting dressing is almost like a buttercream. With a small amount of nuttiness. Please enjoy, feedback most...

Lemon/Lime Virgin Cocktail Cake last edited on 11/10/09
Posted by yummyfun3040 I am always trying to think up fun recipes to write. One of my favorite fruit flavors is lime and I thought I would put together a fun "drink" cake recipe with this flavor. I have never heard of a "Drink" cake before. This is how Lemon/Lime Virgin Cocktail came about. You can also make cupcakes, but be sure the cupcakes only stay in for 20 to 22 minutes or they will be too dry. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I have. Enjoy! (The assembling of cake is down below all of the recipes.) Ingredients 3 cups sifted cake flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2...

Quick Vanilla Buttercream last edited on 2/25/10
Posted by wildflower_girl This has become my go to buttercream. It's light and fluffy and crusts beautifully. It goes particularly well with wasc. I get rave reviews on this icing. It's important that you use cream, half and half or whole milk. The high fat content is what makes it so very creamy. Ingredients 3 cups confectioners' sugar 1 1/2 cup butter (can substitute in 1/2 cup cream cheese for 1/2 c butter for added flavor) 2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 to 2 tablespoons whipping cream 2 t sea salt (can sub regular tablesalt) ...

chocolate cream cheese buttercream icing last edited on 4/30/10
Posted by BarbieAnnPlaysWithHerFOOD I wanted a buttercream that was a little less sugary and buttery that could be used to ice the outside of the cake but also be used as a good filling and this is what I came up with. I use this frequently with the triple chocolate fudge cake ( recipe that I found here on cake central ) for a super decadent chocolate cake. Ingredients 2 cups :confectioners sugar 1 cup: cocoa powder 8 oz. (2 cubes ) : unsalted butter softened to room temp. 4 oz. cream cheese softened to room temp. 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream* ( you can add less or...

Posted by Geechigirl I have been using this recipe for years. It was actually passed down to me from my mother. She owned a bakery in Charleston, South Carolina and this is the recipe we used. It will hold-up well in various temperatures, including the heat and humidity. This recipe can be used for white buttercream, off white buttercream (add vanilla), or chocolate buttercream (add semi-sweet liquid chocolate and powered coco). Ingredients 1 pound Crisco Shortening (Must use Crisco...tried other brands and did not turn out the same) 4 pounds powdered sugar 3/4 cup of water...

White-White Buttercream Frosting last edited on 5/13/10
Posted by krazigirl79 I used this recipe on a wedding cake and it turned out great! The meringue powder gives it a slight "crust" while keeping the icing below moist and soft. Has a nice consistency for icing and piping. Ingredients 1 C Unsalted Butter (Softened) 1 C Vegetable Shortening (regular- not butter flavored) 2 Lbs Powdered / Confectioner's Sugar (about 8 Cups) 1 Tbsp + 1 tsp Meringue Powder 1 tsp Clear Vanilla 1 tsp Almond Extract (Optional: Add additional 1/2 tsp Almond- or use other desired flavored extract in replacement of Almond) 4 oz Heavy Whipping Cream...

The Best Buttercream Ever last edited on 5/27/10
Posted by arkirose I got this recipe from a friend about 6 years ago. I love it. I did change the flavoring from vanilla to almond & butter flavoring. Everyone loves it!! And, because you don't use milk, it lasts a lot longer. I have learned a trick to keeping buttercream fresh for several months. Put it in an airtight container & place in the freezer. It will taste the same as fresh when you thaw it!! It's a great way to keep all of your colored icings for the next time you need it. Ingredients 1 1/2 cup shortening (I use Crisco) 1/2 cup or 1 stick margarine or butter (salted or...

Buttercream frosting last edited on 10/28/10
Posted by cakemaker1015 This is a good creamy recipe that tastes great too! It is stiff so you can make flowers and decorate cakes with it, but it won't have enough crisco to get that greasy feeling in your mouth. If it is to thick to spread (It souldn't be) you can add a bit of milk, just a little bit, and mix that in, or you could microwave it for just a few seconds! don't microwave it to long! Oh! It also takes colors very well, and it is pretty white Ingredients 1 stick- unsalted butter, room temp. 1 and 2/3 cups- powder sugar about 1/3 (can add more to make it more stiff)...
