Vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. Used a 12x18 sheet and carved the top edge using a stencil for the tombstone shape. Wilton's Color Mist in black over gray frosting adds to the look of an old tombstone. (This was the idea of his younger wife...along with a surprise party.)

Chocolate cake with cookies & cream ice cream. Fudge borders, and choc. icing garland. Center tombstone is chocolate cake covered in tootsie roll layer (achieved by kneading tootsie rolls with black dye, ...used Crisco to prevent sticking while rolling). Mini tombstones are Oreo cookies stamped out with cookie cutter, icing stripe over the top, with plastic candle holder inserted.

My first tombstone cake. The customer wanted to be ugly, but nice. So we made the fake fun also. It is a chocolate cake with bc icing. I carved the shape from a sheetcake.

This was for my father's 50th birthday a few years ago...it was a surprise party! The cake is iced in chocolate BC and then sprayed with Wilton color mist stuff (I don't own an airbrush yet). It was made to look like a tombstone.

I made this cake in 2002 for my mom to take to work. The ghosts and tombstones are made out of rolled fondant. The cake was baked in the Wilton Tombstone cake pan

This is a chocolate cake and filled with chocolate ganache and shaped into a dirt mound. After icing it with chocolate icing I crushed chocolate graham crackers and patted them to the icing to resemble dirt. Then add comedy with gummy worms and over the hill candles and sayings. This cake layed flat as we propped up the tombstone at the long end of the cake and had it ALL carried out on a stretcher as we read a Eulogy before lighting the candles. I made this was for my husband's 40th b-day

This was the Wilton tombstone pan the I use to create this. This was used with the dirt mound "grave" cake, already posted. The RIP stood for "Roast In Peas" as my husband is an Executive Chef.(my 16 yr. old's idea) We had this cake propped up to the dirt mound cake and had it carried out on a stretcher where we read a comical Eulogy before lighting the candles.

More people r.s.v.p.-ed to the party the day before and I already had the other cake finished, so I made an extra cake the day of the party. My husband wanted me to make a tombstone with R.I.P. on it really badly--here's what I came up with.
R.I.P. Here lies the youth of Nate "the great".

My neighbor's 40th!! Good thing she has a Halloween birthday because this cake would scare the daylight out of anyone it came out sooooo horrid. I'm glad I found this pic from the first couple of years of decorating. It shows me that I have really improved!! YEEEEAAAAAAAA ... LOL

This was made for a co-worker of my husband, using the tombstone pan. I really have to stop doing these late at nite because the writing turns out lousy. Raspberry flavored cake and icing. Used some leftover royal flowers as was too tired to pipe buttercream ones. Next time will make the gray lighter I think.

Loved the way this cake turned out. The plan was to make it more like one I saw on here, but once I just put the light gray icing on, I thought it looked so realistic, I didn't want to add more borders etc. Didn't really want to put the oreos and worms on it, but that's what the customer wanted. Gives me ideas for Halloween :-) Cake is pineapple and whipped icing.

Yellow half sheet cake cut into tombstone shape. LOTS of buttercream icing frosted roughly to look like cement/stone. I carved the message into the icing and lightly filled with white buttercream to make it stand out.

This woman came to me wanting a very gothic style cake for her Corpse Bride party...I would have liked to put the figurines on it myself at least to take a photo, but I left them in the box as requested. They're a little hard to see, but we have a few worms here and there, black roses, bats...etc. They totally loved it. :D Oh, and the girl was turning 13.

A simple grave cake. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, covered with crushed oreos for dirt, gummie worms, and plastic fingers reaching out. The tombstone is just fondant, words painted with food color.

Chocolate Chip cake with Hot Fudge icing. The tree is cut from artifical flower pick, the fence was an idea I got from here on CC and the graves are made from crushed oreos and the tombstones are cookies from Kroger

I did this for my friends 50th birthday. She loved it. the tombstones are made out of chocolate clay and they stood up on the cake when i gave it to her. Considering I had a surgical procedure earlier that day and finished the cake at around 1:30am, I was happy it got done at all!

I entered this contest just to share,& because my children asked if I would put their cake on the site. My 2 & 4 yr old wanted to do a choc. graveyard cake after seeing an idea in a kids mag. They helped mix, frost, and place the various "things" on the cake. I used chooc. covered graham crackers & heath bars for gravstones (even cut out hole for new coffin coming soon!), fondant ghosts/moon, black sugar dirt, gummy worms, candy pumpkins, and the spiders are non-edible plastic. They had so much fun!

This was for a man's 30th birthday part that was also Halloween themed. Only the tombstone is cake. It's a 9x13 cut into 3 parts and a 10 inch cut in half, stacked and covered in fondant! Silk black rose.

This was so fun! The fence isRoyal icing, the tombstones are fondant and the rest is BC. The cake is dark chocolate fudge. By the way, those aren't crumbs in my icing, I wanted an uneven color, instead I got little dots. Happy with it anyway. Ivana Live, ha!ha!

This is a 9x13 doctored yellow cake cut into 3 pieces with 3 2" layers of 9" doctored devils food inspired by mnmmommy's tombstone. I pretty much copied everything that she did....THANK YOU!!!!! But, I used all buttercream since I haven't tried fondant, yet. This was REALLY fun!!! I could do these every day!

By total accident I have a topsy turvy cake. My cake sank! It's all decorated in BC and accented with a Fondant Ghost, Tombstone, Bat and Pumpkin. The Fall leaves on the tree are candy sprinkles individually placed but the green ones are BC. I ran out of icing to color in different colors,.. it was an afterthought. The Ghost, Tombstone, Bat and Spider/Webs are all accented with Silver Luster Dust. Enjoy the photo,.. it was fun to make and the kids can't wait to eat it!

This was done for my daycare. All the kids have a tombstone with their name on it. I'm the mummy. Covered in BC, all figures/trees made from fondant and gumpaste. Fence is pretzel covered in RI.
