I'm a beginner @ cake decorating, but here's my first attempt at playing with fondant for my daughter Veronica's 3rd birthday. Her theme was Strawberry Shortcake, but she saw a design similar to this one in a decorating book I have, so I blended the 2 ideas to make strawberry-shaped balloons.

Several "firsts" for this cake. First time to use the impression mat. And I made her name from melted chocolates. Fondant daisies.

LOL Oh, and my cell phone. Heehee. My food markers didn't want to work on the rolled buttercream so I ended up having to "paint" the writing on with food color. What a headache! But I am so happy with the outcome. Thanks for looking!

Another view of name celebration cake. THe pic makes the blue look green, but it was really a baby blue. The other colors weren't as bright as they appear in the picture either

This was my practice run for my daughter's second birthday cake. The letters are sugar cookies, iced and sprinkled with colored sugar. The buttercream is tinted orange. I decorated the rest of the cake with India Tree Pretty Pink Bubbles, bubblegum flavored candies. The cake itself is chocolate with chocolate whipped cream filling. Yum!

Many thanks to sweet as tisse for her help in the lettering!
This is a 21st cake which holds the world record for the "most things that could go wrong on a cake did go wrong"! Thank goodness it's finished is all I have to say about that.

I'm a beginner and was VERY nervous about this cake ~ this was my first stacked cake and my third attempt in using fondant. I made it for my nephew's first birthday. Thanks to Aine2 for the inspiration. Hope to get better soon so I can start getting paid :o)

This was a 10, 8, and 6 inch three tier cake. It was all chocolate...I used the hazelnut coffee mat for 2/3 of the water. Outside is all MMF. The stars were also MMF. I used 26 guage floral wire tto dangle the stars off of and also sticking out of the top for added flare. I used the wilton edible markers for the names on the stars...they were difficult to use and bled alot.

Against my better judgement I let the client transport this cake. By the time I got to the hall there were tiny cracks in buttercream and some of the piped outline had been smashed. I covered the damages with fondant hearts. The cake was 4.5" long, all buttercream frosting. This was for Jasmines 12th birthday.

I made these for the first time, it took me a week of trying to get the booties right. This was the best I could get so maybe someone can tell me what to do differently next time. I had a hard time get the top to match up with the bottom. So I made these for my niece's christening in a few weeks but not sure if I am doing a cake. I figured I could do a dummy cake up and photo it.
