I baked this cake for a friend's son's 10th birthday. This cake was also my 1st attempt on cut-out cake. Iced in buttercream, logs were chocolate fingers, wheels were chocolate chips cookies and M&M chocolates for the lights.

I made a classic French Christmas buche de noel into a birthday cake for my sister (bday was Dec. 23). The log is a chocolate genoise iced with a chocolate whipped cream. For the decorations, I made meringue mushrooms (a must for any buche), pinecones (homemade peanut butter cups covered with almonds), and chocolate decorations (confectionary coating).

Choc cake baked in a jelly roll pan coated with twinkie filling and rolled. Covered in choc ganache and a MMF poinsetta and holly. Still working on ganache and the whole rolling process, I had a few problems with it cracking.

I made this for a holiday party last Christmas. It's a Martha recipe, down to the meringue mushrooms. My sponge cake stuck in the pan, as as a result it got flattened a bit, but it tasted delish.

Made this for an Italian customer whose husband loves log cabins, squirrels, and mountains. first floor part is family recipe for red velvet cake with white chocolate cream cheese BC and second floor and roof is Dark Chocolate Fudge cake with mocha BC made with homemade Vanilla Bean Coffee Liquer. All covered in Homemade Dark Chocolate Candy Clay. Smoke coming from chimney is Royal icing. Had my boys holding a blow drier to it for 30 minutes so it would dry in time. Yikes

I made this for a co-worker who's daughter is 2 today. She loves bugs!! I tried to make it as girly as possible. :0)

It's carrot cake with the crusting cream cheese icing recipe from this site. I put 2 loaf pans end to end and used a scrap hunk for the top part of the log sticking up. The bugs and flowers are made of gum paste (my first time playing with this) and everything is edible except for the bee stingers and the butterfly antennae.

Thanks for looking!

Baked this cake for my son to celebrate his 7th birthday with his classmates in school. Borrowed the idea from a book but altered the design to resemble 2 pieces of logs put together & topped with 7 spiders. Spiders, webs & dried leaves are made of chocolates.

Well, I finally found a chocolate cake that worked, and mixed half ganache with half melted candymelts, and the outside turned out perfect. Put on a thin layer, let set then put on a thicker layer, using a fork for the bark. Filling was 2 cups heavy cream with a box of instant chocolate pudding...............OMG - wasl licking the litle bit left in the bowl! Looks like I am getting the hang of this! However note to self.......remove the waxed paper used to catch drips BEFORE the chocolate hardens!

I made this Christmas 2005 (bringing out the old guns) before I ever learned anything about cake decorating - I think I did pretty well considering I knew nothing! Everything was done from scratch!

Not my best work. The icing was hardening faster than I could spread it and the cake kept crumbling. It turned out ok I guess. I was my first try. I'm looking forward to trying again next Christmas!

This cheese log flopped terribly - when I rolled it (jelly roll fashion), it peeled off, it looked terrible. So I took dark and white chocolate leaves that I had prepared for another cake that did not work out (see what I was dealing with all in one day?), and I covered the log with them! Everyone thought it was just an elegant presentation (sshhh!)

Chocolate jelly roll cake with cherry and cream filling. Iced with extra creamy Cool Whip that I tinted with cocoa. "Mushrooms" are mini marshmallow topped with Hershey kisses and sprinkled with sugar. Holly is non-edible.

Meringue mushrooms make this chocolate yule log completely authentic and delights everyone when they realize not only can they eat the mushrooms they are delicious with a light dusting of dirt (cocoa ).
