My first guitar cake! I made this cake for my friend's husband's birthday.

This was made for a teenage boy that plays the snare in his highschool band. It was his birthday cake but also a celebration cake for making All-State Band this year. I used a tube pan and just filled the center hole with crumbled up chocolate cake leftovers and chocolate whipping cream.

9X13 double chocolate cake iced in buttercream with fondant guitar. The Fender Telecaster is an exact replica of Sarah's guitar. Very difficult to see in ths pic but I aslo added the notes for "Happy Birthday" all along the front of the cake.

This was a cake donated for raffle prize at our primary school ceili! Had great fun making this. Although the uilleann pipes look more like a slug than anything that could make music! And no Irish Ceili would be complete without the couple of pints of Guinness! All fondant/gum paste.

I made this cake for my Son and Daughter's piano recital party. It was made from a 11 x 15 sheet cake. It was chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling. I got the idea for this cake from this site, thank-you boween and Nana2three.

Chocolate cake and buttercream with a few fondant accents for string connections. Airbrushed with foodcolor and silver dust. Strings are fishing line.

Made this 7x11 vanilla cake iced with buttercream for my husband's birthday this year. The accordion was the first instrument that he learned to play so he challenged me to make this for him. Very easy to do. I cut the corner off of one side so that the piano keys would be lower than the make part of the cake. Used the big Wilton icing tip to make the pleats. Next time I would ice the pleats smooth and use an edging comb instead to make the pleats. Thanks for looking.

This is the same cake that I have made before but this one was for a child's birthday. That's why I put clowns on it instead of roses. It's a French vanilla cake with chocolate mousse filling. I only had it on the stand to take the picture because the stand is homemade and not that sturdy.

This is a 24"x13" cake frosted and filled in buttercream and all fondant figures.To give you an idea of the sizes: the guitars and bass are about 5' long and the organ was about 7" long by 5" high. It was for our worship director (on the cake) who is leaving our church. All the instruments are replicas of some of the band members instruments. I'll post seperate pic of the instruments. This is a cake for a banjo lover's birthday! It's a 9 inch round and the neck and head were carved from a sheet cake. Fondant and buttercream decorations. So much fun to make!

You can't tell in the photo but this ended up kind of messy...I ended up with pearl and silver dust everywhere. I should have just airbrushed it but worried that the mint or lemon extract would flavor the cake, so tried to blow it from my hand. OOPS. Plus I realize now the fret board should be black, not dark brown. Oh well. Everything is BC except the little tuning dials, and the strings which are spaghetti.

I did these two cakes for my daughter's boyfriend and his twin brother. One plays the drums and the other guitar in church band. I did the entire top of cakes as a BC transfer. I accidently left off some detail on the guitar, but all in all turned out ok. They loved them and dove right in with a fork!

my very first floodfill, maybe i shouldnt try such a complex shape next time...this is the first one of the cakes that had to be done in 5 days along with the shrek! the shiny parts on the cake is just water,....is there anyway of making your royal icing stick to your fondant cake without drenching it in water!!!????

Whew, this was a doozy! Used 2 12x18" stacked cakes to carve out the guitar shape, then used 2 9x13 stacked cakes to make the neck. Covered in fondant with fondant accent pieces. Everything brushed with luster dust. I used bc for the strings. I know they're alittle askew. I'll have to practice those. ;-)

I hope euphonium is how you spell it! The bride and groom are both music teachers and this is his instrument of choice. The carving was fun. To get the color effect I had to let it crust frequently and do several layers of color. The final black "gleam" is done with edible Wilton black marker. Way fun.

this cake was created for a performing arts open house. everything shown is edible, including the sheet music, hardwood floor, violin, ballet slipper, and comedy and tragedy masks. the bag is made out of carmelized vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream icing, and the violin is made of iced rice crispy treats. I find the rice crispy treats are good when small children will be attending, and is also SOOO versatile to work with.

This is for a customer who wanted a musical theme for her child's first birthday... we came up with the idea together. The bottom part is done in fondant but the bear is of course buttercream. The bow is just ribbon, I like that look for some reason. The instruments are fondant.

Sculpted chocolate cake with vanilla and chocolate buttercream. Fondant and gumpaste pieces. Thanks to msauer for pm'ing me her photos and notes!!! My brown buttercream was streaky after smoothing but this time it helped it look like woodgrain. Used the Melvira roller technique--fabulous!

My son loves musical instruments and he turned 3 years old, he asked for an accordeon cake, we don't like fondant very much so I made it all buttercream with fondant decorations only so it would be easier to peel off. In the middle i cut out a diamond shape carton and used the wilton spray paint to give it that look. I have few more pictures in case anyone wants to try to make this one!!

I made this electric guitar cake for my husband's birthday yesterday (the bottom one is his actual guitar). It is a white chocolate macadamia cake frosted with buttercream. the neck is solid chocolate. The picture didn't come out very well - you can't see the details (knobs, etc) becasue they are black on black icing. But, it's the smoothest cake I've ever done (Thanks, Melvira!)!!

My first fondant cake ever. This was for my boyfriend's birthday. He's played the bassoon for over 10 years. It was 42 inches long (20% smaller than life-size). Used "Durable Cake for 3-D..." recipe w/ DH Dark Chocolate Fudge mix. Baked in 12x18 sheet cake pan, cut, and carved. Iced with Chocolate Syrup Frosting w/ McCormick Raspberry extract added. Covered in Satin Ice chocolate fondant; Nu Silver and Super Pearl luster dusts were mixed with vodka and painted on sculpted fondant pieces.

I've made this one before but practice makes perfect. The "strings" are definitely straighter on this one. The body and neck are both carved from 12" x 18" sheet cakes. Covered in fondant with fondant accents.

This is was made for a little girl who loves music. I have never had someone love their cake this much, it made my heart flutter with joy :). The instruments are candy molds and the stars and piano keys are mmf. I dusted petal dust for the shimmer effect. Thanks for looking :)

This is a replica of my best friends, son's guitar. His is metallic blue in color. lol, he was a great technical consultant for us on this cake. It was his suggestion to leave the strings off and write happy birthday on the pick-ups. The body is a chocolate sheet cake crumbcoated in b/c, no fancy flavors. The neck and headstock are rice krispy treats. Everything is covered in MMF. The neck was airbrushed black. We used a neon green gel color to shade the MMF. Thanks for looking!

This is my first attempt at cake decorating. I was trying to replicate my son's favorite toy for his 2nd birthday party. Considering this was my first cake, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I just saw an amazing cake that used a sugar gun to make the strings. If I had seen that earlier, I would have used that instead of spaghetti. Now I'm hooked, so I will hopefully be making more fun cakes soon.
