Another cowboy hat, second time around is easier. Thanks to cakemaker for her great instructions. I put a braid around the brim because it didn't turn out as smooth as I would have liked. This went with the rice krispy cowboy boot.

This was one of two cakes I entered at my local fair (first competition ever). I entered this in the novelty cake division and it took 1st place! I didn't get a picture before wrapping it to take to the fair.

My attempt to copy the awsome cakes in the gallery. My hats off (pun intended) to the cakemaker. I fear I fell short, but had fun in the process. Choc. cake with MMF covering and MMF/gumpaste brim. Handkerchief also MMF painted with Americolor gel.

This is the second cowboy hat I have done for the same client. I changed this one alittle by sponging on Witon brown mixed with everclear on with a wadded up paper towel. I also added MMF barbed wire and rope.

These cookies were ordered for someone going out of Texas to help promote Texas. Does that make sense?

I made this cake for a cousin, they have been together since very young but decided to get married. She asked for something very simple in ivory color, I made french vanilla with amond icing and butter pecan with pecan icing. The Cowboy hat is the groom's cake, my first hat cake. Covered in fondant

I made this hat to go with a wedding cake (in round wedding cakes) for a cousin. It is my first Hat cake and honestly I thought it would be a disaster. I let the outside hardden for about 1 week on top of a real hat (it wasn't straight jaja) and made the whole center the day before. It is a challenge!!! Try it

This was our second attempt at a cowboy hat cake. It was sitting on a cake shaped like the state of Oklahoma. The sash is fondant. I think the key for making this cake is to be sure that your brim is good and dry. We dried this one for about a week.

Thanks so much to cakemaker for sending me instructions! I had fun making it and hope to make an other one soon. I had lots of mistakes to learn from. This is the first time I have ever carved a cake and amazingly I enjoyed it a great deal. Now if I could just get that fondant figured out!

This was my first attempt at making a cowboy hat cake. The oval cakes were covered in fondant with a fondant sausage on the top of the cake (under the top layer of fondant) to create the top design of the hat. The fondant/gumpaste outer rim of the cake was made a few days prior to allow for drying. The brown rope border is also fondant. Thanks to everyone here for all of your help with this cake.

Someone wanted cowboy theme and I copied cmmom's cake from here (thanks cmmom). She gave me a copy of the plates with bandana edge and cowboy and so I thought it would be great to get the detail of the bandana that I had laying around the house too. :-) Thanks for looking!

I did this for a lady who like line dancing and she had a flower garden.
Every thing I made and is edible the stakes in the garden on the right are candles.

This my SAD attempt at a hat cake. I learned from all my mistakes and if I ever have to do another, I know what to try next time. At least the guy I made it for seemed to like it.

The cowboy hat is a chocolate cake baked in the oval pans and covered with BC and MMF. The sheet cake is 11X15 butter cake covered in BC. After several attempts on the hat band, I went back to regular fondant and my DH helped me get it rolled out ;-) The cake is for a co-workers son who is turning 7.

I did it! Lots of room for improvement. 3 days was not enough to dry the MMF/gumpaste brim all the way. When I turned it right-side up off the real hat (used to mold the brim) the sides flopped and cracked. Was able to hot glue it back together again, but then had to cover the brim with pink felt to hide the glue. Everything else is MMF except for the BC straw. I thought the bandanna turned out pretty good. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL YOU PREVIOUS HAT MAKERS WHO GAVE ME SUCH GOOD ADVICE.

Well, here it is. I will be putting together the "how to" soon. I was disappointed but it turned out ok. Vanilla cake with buttercream and fondant and Kincaellan's jewels. Belt buckle is gumpaste painted with luster dust and alcohol. Cake is for a 50th surprise birthday party for a co-worker that wanted a pink cowboy hat with rhinestones. Note to self ~ make sure you know where all of your required tools are before beginning a project!
