My son wanted Gotham City for his Batman 3rd birthday party. My first attempt at color flow...good thing I stated a week in advanced for the buildings to dry. The buildings were quite labor intensive, not real straight and I had alot of crackng while they dried. It was a big hit though...the kids each took home the buildings, they had enough sugar at the party. This cake was huge, I had 1/2 left over after serving 22, and some had seconds.

My version of the Spiderman cake from Wilton's 2005 yearbook. I used graham crackers instead of making cookies ~ much easier.

Batman/Gotham City cake done, a lady wanted a magazine cover copied. Used the wacky cake recipe for allergic customer (no eggs, milk). Base cake is 11x15 and Batman is cut out of additional 9x13 so its raised up.

Oscar, the 5yo birthday boy is having a Super Hero party! The Flash is on the backside of the city. I got the idea from the 2005 Wilton Yearbook and have used it a few times for other themes ~ Batman and King Kong.

This is a terrible mess but a good experiment for me. It is a 3-D cake, the buildings are cake some are frosted and some are covered in fondant. I had a terrible time with the fondant and I was running out of time. The little figures are also fondant but they came out bigger than I wanted. The cakes stayed in building formation easily. I did not use dowels or any other support.

Batman cake for my little superhero's 4th birthday tomorrow. It is my take on the popular Wilton 'spiderman' cake. I also used a cake from the whimsical bakehouse book as my inspiration. I can tell I have been out of practice for awhile. I had a little trouble with the buttercream this time. I think I am starting to prefer fondant! Only the 2nd time I have stacked a buttercream cake, boy I find fondant stacking much easier! The images are chocolate transfers and the batman is a candle. TFL!

Took inspiration from all cakes on this site and used aspects of all of them. All bc except emerald city and of course figure. Emerald City is white choc w/ luster dust. Have a few painted sucker sticks for axe and wand. Four tiers, all chocolate for three year old's birthday.

My husband loves The Wizard of OZ so this birthday I made him the emerald city. The base was a round lemon cake covered in green fondant. The city "buildings" were krispy treats that I cut out in pillar shapes and coverd in the green fondant. Cake board - royal frosting grass, fondant yellow brick road (painted with yello luster dust), poppies mad from gumpast. Everyone loved it especially my husband!

This cake was a little bit of a challenge because when I made this I didn't know anything about fondant or gumpaste and had never used royal icing. Everything is made from buttercream frosting and CHOCOLATE. Yes, the buildings are all white chocolate which was very yummy - but we had my sons party at the park and we live in Arizona.. SO.. chocolate and AZ heat (even in October) it had started to droop before we ate it.

The yellow brick road is made out of fondant, with yellow ediable sparkles. The grass is made with the grass tip/buttercream icing.

This is a red velvet, heart-shaped cake with fondant covering I made for my wife's birthday a couple of weeks before we moved to Seattle. I tried to have various opposing themes mixed together in this cake and it is one of my favorites.

These are the cookies for my sons Bday cake, I got the idea from the wilton 2007 yearbook "key to the city" cake.
They are NFSC with royal icing, I made the cookie cutters myself with the directions from here.
It only took me 4 tries to get them right! ;)

This was done for my son's gilfriend who a college grad dance mgt student & soon off to Disney World to be amongst the cast of stars as part of an internship. Blue and white stars ( fondant) are the college mascot for OCU. Rope bookmark is fondant as well as college letterhead image..the rest is buttercream. However, the little 'ensamble' above the letterhead image isn't hand crafted..it is a set of scrapbook stickers on laminate that she can re-use in her own non-edible album when the cake is gone :)
