I stacked three sheet cakes. I used a foil cake pan slightly smaller than the cake and cut the center of the top layer out so that the pan would nestle inside it. Put four dowel rods into the bottom layers to support the pan and bottles. I used BC over the edges of the pan and filled the pan with clear gelatin cubes I made using several ice cube trays. I tried to find mini bottles of beer but had to use full size bottles instead.

This cake is for a ppirate theme birthday and I could make whatever I wanted within a certain budget. Chocolate with buttercream frosting. Sparkles added to the water and the sand is brown sugar. While I was doing this cake my dog was hit by a car....Please pray for her. She never runs away from me. It has been a horrible day I sure hope my customer likes this cake.

This cake was made for my cousin who is turning 40! His wife wanted a fishing cake, she left the design up to me. I found out that he has a special lake he goes fishing on. So, I made this fisherman out of fondant sitting on the bank of the lake. He is sitting on a fondant ice chest w/tootsie roll beer bottles around him, holding onto a fishing pole(wood dowel) w/real fishing line(hard to see in picture). The cake is a basic white mix w/almond extract and the frosting is buttercream.

These are my first professional cakes. They were used for a baptism reception. Thus the rosary, the two tier one is to tie the color scheme and the "small jewerly box cake" represents the little girl.

An 11x15x2 cake was cut in half and stacked. Filling is 2 layers of pineapple and one of sliced, fresh bananas with the cake being strawberry. Iced w/buttercream; airbrushed. Everything on the cake is edible (foil-covered choco coins; fondant pearls etc) except for the lid and a couple of pearl strands.

I made this cake recently. The cake is made out of 3 stacked cakes and the lid is styrofoam that I wrapped in foil and iced and then attached it with dowel rods. The treasure chest is filled with chocolate coins and fun jewelry items like rings and necklace beads for the girls! The base around the cake was sprinkled with brown sugar to resemble sand. It got rave reviews!

** the treasure chest was supposed to be fondant.... Well, it's not! The fondant was a flop so I made it out of cardboard and iced it w/ buttercream instead. I woke up this morning having an allergy attact and couldn't help but think I wish I would have finished this yesterday!!! Everything else is edible except the necklaces (and the toothpicks holding the scroll on).

This is a strawberry cake with chocolate buttercream icing. Rolos, Hershey Kisses, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are the gold and silver flowing from this chest. The darker icing is chocolate buttercream with brown food coloring. Mini M&M rivets and Fruit by the Foot straps loop over the top to the back. There is a seahorse, clam shell and two other shells made of chocolate adorning the chest. The keyhole is 2 mini yellow M&Ms.

This was a cake for my son's birthday. At 4 he's already a chocoholic so it's a chocolate cake with chocolate fudge frosting. I ran a fork through the frosting to look like wood. The lid is rice krispie treats done the same way so it's a little lighter. I filled the top with candy and plastic play jewelry. The latch and buckles are MMF painted with gold luster dust. Thanks for all the ideas I've seen on this site.

Chocolate cake with double chocolate buttercream (recipe from this site...yum!); fondant accents and lots of candy for the pirate's "booty";graham crackers for sand. Made from a 9 x 13 cut in half and stacked for chest base and 8" half rounds (3 layers) stacked sideways for the rounded top. I carved a little wedge in the rounds for an opening. Used watered down super black color to "age" the chest - just painted it over the buttercream. Paring knife made the wood grain. Thx to all here for the ideas!

I made this treasure chest for my sister's little boy. The top is made from rice crispie treats. I used bamboo skewers to prop the lid open. The cake is one 11 x 15, cut in half and stacked. The wood grain effect was done with a toothpick after the icing crusted. Chocolate coins and candies and plastic necklaces are on top.
