This was the first time the spirit over took me with the desire to have the decorations on the cake come up off the cake. Again this design was inspired by the party decorations chosen by Maxie's Mom. She had a pool party and fish were the theme. The coral/seaweed strands were not on the decorations but the cake just seemed to need them.

This is a three-layer checkerboard cake (white and chocolate) with the almond custard filling recipe from this site.

I used crushed graham wafers for the sand and pretzels for the hut. (The pretzel idea was from another cake that I had seen on this site). For the trees, I used plastic egg cartons and piped icing over them using the striped icing technique.

Three of the ladies are white cake and the other is chocolate.

My friend's birthday was a Survivor theme.

This was a last minute save. A store bought cake was brought to me by a desprate mom. The store just slapped frosting on the cake and piped a line on the base. She had the plastic Dora pieces so I sent Dora on an Adventure. The 3 year old girl loved it! And I got to be the hero.

Finally!! I learned how to make stabilized whipped cream. This cake if filled with the same ingredients used in the decoration: whipped cream, strawberries and peaches. I placed 3 candles in the center. Too bad that people were in such a rush to eat it that I was not able to take a pic with the lighten candles.

these were my 1st fondant cakes and my 1st doll cakes! one was strawberry the other chocolate and vanilla layered. both filled with buttercream and "dressed" like they were before we disrobed them. They were for my neice's birthday. One for the family party and one for her Princess party. I embossed the fondant with clay embossing sheets.

Okay first let me start with a few disclaimers (grins):
1. I am not a fan of the Bratz, but when your stuck in the 1/05 blizzard in Long Island, and your family requests that you make "one of your great cakes for your cousins daughter (who is fabulous by the way and the sweetest girl you could ever meet), and you are trapped because flights have been cancel to take you back to California where only an infrequent earthquake can trap you...well what can you do...
2. I only made the Bratz girl image.

Zack had a Science Party for his 7th birthday. So I get a call in November (his birthday is January 6th).
Auntie! you know I am having a science party, right?
Yes Zack, I do.
Cuz I am way into science and stuff.
Yes Zack (smiling)
So I think..well you know how you can make volcanos out of paper and they can really burp smoke...
Yes. Zack (oh goodness where is this going...)
WELL Mom found a cake online that looks like a volcano AND burps smoke and lava! I would like that cake Auntie!

This cake was from 3 years ago. The image was used by her Mom for the invitations, I used (what else) colored chocolates to recreate the image. You can see that the colors are flat compared to the Bratz cake 3 years later when I realized that you do subtle color dimensions with brushing chocolate.

Simple cake for a man's 90th Birthday. Thought I'd do blue so that it would still be "manly"...even with flowers.
