Basketweave isn't just for easter and wedding cakes! I used it to create a fun and colorful patriotic cake. The cake and roses are done in buttercream. I used the spatula striping technique for the roses and wilton's firework cupcake pics to add some sparkle.

I used all BC icing. The fireworks were cupcakes w/ BC icing. I didn't have much time, so next time I think I'll make one big firework w/ 1/2 of the sports ball pan.

This was made for memorial day I tried to make tassles out of buttercream and it didn't work. This was a very interesting cake to make because I had 3 neices and a nephew hanging over my shoulder wanting to eat the frosting and giving advice.LOL
I made the pattern for the flag myself but I got the Idea for the cake from a book

I'm very sad the photos came out so blurry, but I added it so I can feel better, this was a lot of work.
Enhanced boxed white cake, buttercream, and the rest is MMF: Statue of Liberty, American Soldier and Uncle Sam.

I wanted to do something fantastic and new for the 4th and found some variations of this cake. I had never worked with layers before and made this one six layers high! It has a multicolored inside (see other picture). The stars and stripes are AirHeads. They are very difficult to mold into stars. It worked barely with a combination of heating them, beating them and cursing at them lol. The little candy stars I found in a superman candy dispenser and the rim of the hat is just an cardboard circle with icing.

This was the first paid cake and many things seemed like they didn't want to go right for me while assembling it. Even my DH noticed and stayed clear of me!

This was a request for a Captain America cake (the nickname for the birthday person). It was chocolate cake (Wacky Cocoa cake recipe) with raspberry filling and extra special buttercream to decorate. Did a FBCT for the shield and the R is suppose to represent the guy's real name, Ruben. I hope they liked it.

Penny's Cut-out Sugar Cookies with Toba Garrett's glace icing. I didn't care for the way the round one came out (used a stencil), but it still looks kinda neat (in an abstract kind of way LOL!)

This is an all fondant cake. It was created for two boys that were sharing their birthday. The theme was "Captain America." The stars around the base hold one small candle each. I also created a wire topper but it is not displayed here.

My son wanted a superhero cake with his favorite superheroes on the cake. So I tried chocolate writing. First time ever attempted chocolate writing. A lot more work went into drawing each superhero faces.

This was what I came up with when asked for a cake for an american man living in New Zealand - something unique to both cultures. My idea seemed silly now that I look at it but they seemed to love it! That's what counts :o)

This is a WASC with Marshmallow Creme Frosting (very yummy). IT was made for a man in our church who recently returned from Iraq. However, by the time I got to church, the juice from the berries had broken the frosting down completely and the borders fell off. So....I took it back home and redecorated it (next photo).
