I am doing a basket weave cake today. It is a 12 inch round. The basketweave will be only on the top of the cake surface not around the sides.

I was reading in my course book about it. I forget what I need to know about the lines and things. Isn't the purpose of the lines and dividing if you are decorating the sides of the cake? Doese that really matter if it is on the top?

Any tips to help save me any headaches? I have not done basketweave in a long time and I just forget.

You can apply the same technique to the top of the Cake. Dividing to help you figure out the spacing of the vertical lines. It will help them to be more consistant. This way you wont end up with an inch here and 2 inches over there when it comes to spacing.

Just read the course book if you have it. It's pretty easy. Do a few practice runs on a plate and you are good to go. If you have more questions after that I would be happy to help you out.

No problem. I am a lefty also. I would love to hear from a fellow lefty!

Ok, I went to look at my book again. I remember now. I have to work from the right part of the cake to the left. That is why I wrote my lines like that. I should write more info on my notes because I don't remember my own tips.

..yeah, I start at the right side, make my vertical line and then add the horizontal lines and skip a space in between the horizontal lines. Then do the next vertical line and then the alternating horizontal line. Hooray for lefties...we need our own support group sometimes!!
