I have a halloween cake I need to do for Tuesday. The buyer wants pumpkins stacked on the cake against a fence for more of a fall/halloween look then anything scary/halloween. So I figured I could make cake balls out of the scraps of cake i have then cover in orange fondant and make the indentions of pumpkin seams (?). I'm not sure of another easier way to make some pumpkins.

Any suggestions would be great!!!!

Dia - Take a look at my cake in my photos section. I did this one last weekend for my son's third birthday party at the pumpkin patch. The large pumpkin was from two mini bunt pans that I sheared off the top, and put on top of each other. Then the small ones are from a tiny pumpkin shaped pan that I found at Walmart. All the pumpkins are cake decorated in orange BC. The leaves and vines are royal.

Good luck with your cake!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Hmm.. I wonder if I can find that pan and do all the pumpkins in chocolate instead of cake and fondant. Thanks for the pan idea!!

Dia, You can make it in Pyrex bowl or any oven safe bowl.
You should make two half cakes which can make one whole sort of round shaped cake.
Just attach two half cakes with your favorite filling and make a small pumpkins.
You can make many cakes at a time.

Thanks
Nitu

You could make pumpkin shaped cookies or even make them out of fondant.

I looked on wilton's website and saw that pan. I don't want jack-o-lanterns and don't see how to get it without the face. I think I'll take the "easy" road and do them all out of fondant. That way I can get different sizes and shapes.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!! Much appreciated!!

You couldn't actually see the faces when baking them in cake, and I covered mine in icing anyways. I'm sure that they'll turn out fabulous whatever you do! icon_biggrin.gif

OMG! Did I have a blast doing the pumpkins out of fondant this weekend. I didn't remember to post any pictures of them but i was giggling my head off making them. I made some green for the stems, vines, leaves, and the rest orange for different size/shape pumpkins. I had my own fondant pumpking patch!! I can't wait to go home tonight and put them on the cake and take a picture.

I'm going to add a "calvin and hobbes" twist to it too. I put a face on a couple of them. I'm going to add a foot to one of them and make a depression in the cake going over the edge. On the cake board, I'm going to place a splatted pumpkin. Get it?? Like the one kicked the other off the cake!!

oooh what an addiction.
