Hi!!
I was wondering what you do for fresh flowers on a cake??
I've read just about everywhere that you must use organic or pesticide free flowers. Only problem is, I went to two different florists (one a very large and well known one) and they both said they don't do that. icon_cry.gif They just use their regular flowers for cakes and have never had a problem with anyone getting sick. The local wedding cake bakery said don't listen to them. icon_confused.gif
I've only done one cake with fresh roses on the top and I don't plan to do it anymore. I'll leave the flowers up to the customer to arrange with their own florist from now on, but I still want to know just in case I need to do one for myself of my own family.
Any suggestions or advice???

Well I tried my neighbors fresh roses on a cake one time.. We had little bugs all over the cake.. They were just having a ball in my icing..My opinion..STAY CLEAR AWAY FROM THE NEIGHBORS FLOWERS!!!

I have used fresh flowers on cakes ALOT! I have not had one complaint yet of people being sick. I have even placed them directly on the cake without anything repercussions from my decision.
Whether or not you put fresh flowers on your cake is up to you and how comfortable you would feel about the decision. Make sure to check for bugs, and you can always rinse the flowers off with cold water before placing them on the cakes.

it would scare me a little.. I know too many people around here that have just found out they are allergic to certain flowers... I can't imagine someone finding out at their wedding..... and being rushed to the hospital instead to thier honeymoon, but like stated there are those who dont have a problem at all and I think cakes with flowers are so pretty!!!!!!!

If you get flowers from a florist or supermarket they are always stored in the icebox. The bugs can't live in the icebox. So I don't think you have anything to worry about. I would wash them off. I would never use fresh flowers from my garden! No way! My Mamaw's bday is in June & I'm making her a 3 tier cake w/ fresh flowers all over it! My first flower cake! It's going to be fun!!!

Thanks for all the advice, but what about all those who demand "pesticide free"??
It seems like no one knows much about that, so I guess it's not as important as I thought, especially if the big florists don't care.
I guess I'll be careful not to handle that part for orders, so that I'll be free from any possible law suits!!! icon_wink.gif
