My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this month and I would love to do a gazebo (royal icing) on top of a cake.
When my dad was 21 he got a draft notice and was being stationed in Germany and my mom didn't want to put off their wedding (she was 19) so they quickly got married. She didn't have the traditional wedding...no long white gown, no wedding party and no wedding cake. They got married in the priest's parlor with only 2 witnesses allowed in the tiny cramped room. There are literally 4 or 5 photos of that day...
My mom has never complained, not once, but has made comments like, "I wonder what it would have been like....". Well, my parents had 5 daughters, so she got to be very involved in 5 weddings! 
They shared their first kiss in a gazebo...a story they tell fondly. When they bought their new house last year, my DH (McGyver) built them a humongous screened-in gazebo off the deck over looking their woods.
So I am going to make my parents the wedding cake they never had...and I want to make a royal icing gazebo for the topper. I am handing this over to you pros....any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
I know this is already long, sorry...but they are the gosh darn cutest couple I have ever seen! They still kiss and hold hands like newlyweds and I just want to do something special for them.
